The price of gold on the Kitco floor at 8:30 p.m. (April 3, Vietnam time) was trading at $3,064.8/ounce, down 1.98% from the beginning of the session. The price of gold futures for April 2025 delivery on the Comex New York floor was trading at $3,117.5/ounce.

At the beginning of the trading session on April 3 (US time), the world gold price fell sharply as investors rushed to take profits. However, concerns about slowing global economic growth increased amid the backlash against new US tariffs.

Analysts said that the precious metal's rally will continue to be driven by safe-haven flows as the reciprocal tariff decree recently announced by US President Donald Trump has raised concerns about an escalating trade war.

The reciprocal tariffs were much higher than expected, which led to a sell-off in asset markets and sent the dollar lower, said independent metals trader Tai Wong.

Gold is often used as a safe store of value during times of political and financial instability.

Peter Grant, vice president and senior metals strategist at Zaner Metals, said that gold's break above resistance at $3,147.41 an ounce bodes well for a move to $3,200 an ounce and gives confidence to the prospect of a move to $3,300 and $3,500 an ounce.

At the end of the session on April 3, the price of gold bars at SJC closed at 99.5-102.2 million VND/tael (buy - sell), an increase of 400,000 VND/tael in both buying and selling compared to the end of yesterday's trading session.

Meanwhile, the price of 1-5 chi SJC gold rings is listed at 99.4-102 million VND/tael (buy - sell), an increase of 500,000 VND per tael in both directions.

The price of 9999 gold rings at Doji closed the session at 99.3-102.2 million VND/tael, an increase of 600,000 VND/tael (buy) and 800,000 VND/tael (sell) compared to yesterday's closing price.

Gold Price Forecast

Concerns about tariffs have made investors more cautious, with investors turning to gold as a safe haven against volatile markets, said Yeap Jun Rong, a market analyst at IG.

He also predicted that in the short term, gold prices could continue to increase and reach $3,200/ounce thanks to this cautious sentiment.

Analysts see the next target for buyers to push the price above the solid resistance level at $3,200. Meanwhile, sellers are aiming to push the price below the important technical support level at $3,031.

Some forecasts suggest that gold prices could reach $3,500 an ounce by the end of the year. However, rising too quickly also carries risks. A deep correction is entirely possible if current support factors change.

Trump imposes 'shocking' tariffs, what will happen to gold? Gold prices set a new record, reflecting investors' defensive sentiment against global economic and political fluctuations. Experts say the market could correct downward at any time as profit-taking sentiment increases.
