US dollar falls slightly ahead of key economic data

USD exchange rate today January 5, 2024, USD VCB adjusted up 10 VND in both buying and selling directions, world USD decreased slightly before important economic data.

The central VND/USD exchange rate announced by the State Bank is adjusted to 23,915 VND/USD, an increase of 29 VND compared to the trading session on January 4.

Currently, the exchange rate allowed for trading by commercial banks ranges from 23,400 - 25,060 VND/USD. The US Dollar exchange rate has also been brought to the buying and selling range by the State Bank of Vietnam from 23,400 to 25,060 VND/USD.

In the world, the Dollar Index (DXY), measuring the USD against 6 key currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 102.43 points - down 0.06% compared to trading on January 4.

The US dollar, as measured by the DXY index, fell about 0.06% to 102.43 despite rising US Treasury yields, as traders were reluctant to take large directional positions ahead of key US jobs data.

The US Department of Labor will release key economic data – the December nonfarm payrolls report – on Friday. According to a survey, US employers added 150,000 workers last month, down slightly from the 199,000 increase in November. For its part, the unemployment rate is expected to rise to 3.8% from 3.7%, indicating that labor market conditions have eased.

Won prices at banks fluctuate

According to a survey this morning, January 5, 2024 at Vietcombank, the Won Vietcombank exchange rate increased, buying at 16.11 VND/KRW and selling slightly decreased to 19.52 VND/KRW. Meanwhile, at Vietinbank, the Won Vietinbank exchange rate decreased at buying at 16.33 VND/KRW and selling at 20.33 VND/KRW compared to yesterday morning.

In the KRW buying price, 1 bank increased the buying price, 1 bank decreased the buying price, and 5 banks kept the buying price unchanged compared to yesterday. Meanwhile, in the selling price, 1 bank decreased the selling price and 6 banks kept the selling price unchanged compared to yesterday; no bank increased the selling price.

Today, Tien Phong Bank buys Korean Won at the highest price of 17.67 VND/KRW. The lowest selling price of Korean Won is Tien Phong Bank at 19.19 VND/KRW.

Domestic gold suddenly reversed and decreased sharply

Today, domestic gold reversed and decreased sharply by 500,000 VND/tael in both buying and selling directions, while world gold increased slightly.

At the time of survey at 5:00 a.m. on January 5, 2024, the gold price on the trading floors of some companies was as follows:

DOJI listed the price of 9999 gold at 72.00 million VND/tael for buying and 75.00 million VND/tael for selling.

At Mi Hong Gold and Gemstone Company, at the time of survey, the listed price of SJC gold was at 73.00 - 75.00 million VND/tael (buy - sell).

SJC gold price at Bao Tin Minh Chau Company Limited is also traded by the enterprise at 72.05 - 74.75 million VND/tael (buy - sell). Meanwhile, at Bao Tin Manh Hai, it is being traded at 72.00 - 75.20 million VND/tael (buy - sell).

According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 5:00 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was at 2,042.980 USD/ounce, a difference of 2.49 USD/ounce compared to yesterday's gold price. Converted according to the current exchange rate at Vietcombank, the world gold price is about 59.303 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is still 12.697 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Coffee prices continue to fall

Updated at 5:12 a.m. on January 5, 2024, coffee prices have continued to fall sharply since the beginning of the week. Currently, the average coffee price in the Central Highlands provinces is about 67,100 VND/kg, the highest purchase price in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces is 67,400 VND/kg.

Specifically, the coffee purchase price in Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces is quite high at 67,200 VND/kg; In Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces, coffee is purchased at the highest price of 67,400 VND/kg.

The price of green coffee beans (coffee beans, fresh coffee beans) in Lam Dong province in districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha is purchased at 66,500 VND/kg.

Coffee prices in Dak Lak province today are the highest; in Cu M'gar district, coffee is purchased at 67,300 VND/kg, and in Ea H'leo district, Buon Ho town, it is purchased at the same price of 67,400 VND/kg.
