Gasoline prices increased sharply, some types increased by nearly 1,500 VND/liter

(Dan Tri) - During the adjustment period on June 19, gasoline prices increased sharply. Since the beginning of the year, RON 95 gasoline has increased 14 times and decreased 11 times.

On the afternoon of June 19, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly announced changes to retail gasoline prices. The effective time is from 3:00 p.m. the same day.

The regulatory agency decided to increase the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline by VND1,170 per liter and RON 95 gasoline by VND1,280 per liter. After adjustment, the maximum retail price of E5 RON 92 gasoline is VND20,630 per liter and RON 95 gasoline is VND21,240 per liter.

Similarly, oil prices were also adjusted upward during this period. Specifically, diesel increased by VND1,450/liter to VND19,150/liter, kerosene increased by VND1,410/liter to VND18,920/liter; meanwhile, mazut increased by VND1,180/kg to VND17,640/kg. The Joint Ministry still maintained not to draw from or spend the price stabilization fund.

Thus, the domestic price of RON 95 gasoline has increased for 4 consecutive sessions after only one decrease. Currently, the price of this fuel is at its lowest level in the past 4 years, equivalent to June 2021. Since the beginning of the year, RON 95 gasoline has increased 14 times, decreased 11 times. Diesel has increased 13 times, decreased 11 times and remained unchanged once.

The fuel price stabilization fund of some key enterprises still recorded a large positive level because this fund has not been used in many recent management periods. The fund balance as of the end of 2024 is more than 6,072 billion VND. Compared to the end of 2023, this fund balance decreased by nearly 600 billion VND.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , since implementing the reduction of gasoline prices to every 7 days, the price fluctuation between two basic adjustments has not been large, and domestic gasoline prices have basically followed the world price movements.

In addition, according to reports from key petroleum traders, the total imported and domestic sources in the first 4 months of the year were about 9.1 million m3/ton, reaching 30.7% of the total minimum allocated sources. Consumption of petroleum in the past 4 months was about 8.5-8.8 million m3/ton of all kinds of petroleum, an increase of nearly 6% over the same period last year; estimated inventory at the end of April was about 1.7-1.8 million m3/ton of all kinds of petroleum.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to implement solutions to ensure domestic gasoline supply. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requires the Departments of Industry and Trade to monitor local traders to maintain regular and continuous sales activities, selling at listed prices.
