In the two previous tournaments, Hau Giang Union was one of the strong teams in the Southern region. Although they did not have any big stars, they had a well-balanced team.

Strengthening solidarity

This has helped the Hau Giang Trade Union team often go far in the qualifying rounds. Last season, they even won a ticket to the final round. Recently, the two provinces of Hau Giang and Soc Trang merged into Can Tho city.

Therefore, the name Hau Giang Trade Union no longer appears in the 2025 Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament. However, the feet of the old players still run evenly on the field, but this time under the name of the Can Tho Trade Union team.

Even the composition of this new team has up to 50% of the players from the old Hau Giang, the rest from Can Tho and Soc Trang. The merger of three localities into one has contributed to significantly increasing the strength of the team, thereby improving the quality of the tournament's matches.

On the opening day (October 10) of the Southern region qualifying round of the Vietnam Workers' and Civil Servants' Football Tournament 2025, Can Tho Trade Union demonstrated a scientific and methodical style of play and had a dramatic 1-1 draw against the Vietnam Maritime Trade Union.

Ms. Tran Tu Nhien, Vice President of the Can Tho City Labor Federation, shared: "Although this is the first year that the Can Tho Trade Union players have been "merged" together, everyone feels close and attached. I think that the spirit of solidarity is the strength of the home team.

That's because our team faced many difficulties. Among them, selecting players and gathering teams from many different places was not simple. This left the whole team with only 3-4 days to practice together. Thanks to everyone's unity and determination, all difficulties could be overcome."

Solidarity is also what journalist Tran Xuan Toan - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Head of the tournament organizing committee - shared in his opening speech for the Southern region qualifying round: "The players are not professional athletes. Most of us are in different fields, in different professions in the same locality.

Therefore, everyone only has a short time to gather and practice together. That is why the solidarity factor will decide whether the teams can go far or not."

Pride

Besides the Can Tho Trade Union team, there are many similar teams in this year's tournament. But there are also some special teams that are still the same old unit, the same people. They simply wear new names.

That is the case of the Dong Thap Trade Union team, when the entire force was from... the former Tien Giang. They were workers from the APACHE Garment Company. Although it had a new name, the team's players still showed their pride.

Center back Pham Quoc Dai - Deputy Captain of Dong Thap Trade Union Team, a native of Tien Giang - confided: "Tien Giang or Dong Thap are both my hometowns. That's why we feel proud to represent our province in this year's tournament."

Another case belongs to the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Team 2. Last year, this team had the core force from Thanh Thang Thang Long Joint Stock Company and was named Binh Duong Trade Union 2. This year, it is still the same people, they have been given a new name to represent the city named after Uncle Ho.

However, Mr. Hoang Van Dung - Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union 2 team - shared: "No matter what name we have, the identity of our team will not change. We are even more proud to have the name Ho Chi Minh City. That is a source of motivation and great spiritual strength for us to strive to compete with all our might in the 2025 Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament".

In 2025, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Vietnam Football Federation and Tuoi Tre newspaper will continue to coordinate to organize the Vietnam Workers' and Civil Servants' Football Tournament. Entering its third year of organization, the tournament has affirmed its position as an annual and prestigious playground for workers, civil servants and laborers across the country; contributing to promoting the movement of physical exercise and sports, improving the cultural and spiritual life of workers, civil servants and laborers in particular and the whole society in general.

This year's tournament is honored to receive the support of Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (THACO), Dong Luc Sports Group, HTP Pharmaceutical Investment Joint Stock Company, Hoa Sen Group Joint Stock Company, Sunshine Group, Saigon Water Corporation (SAWACO), Fashion Connection Joint Stock Company (Faslink), 108 Central Military Hospital, 175 Military Hospital and a number of enterprises.
