Over the past week, the online community has been caught up in the story of Reesa Teesa's (born 1998, Atlanta, Georgia) marriage and breakup. Many celebrities in Vietnam could not resist the attraction of this "tragicomedy". They listened to the 50 parts of the video in detail everywhere, even when their eyes were "closed" due to sleepiness.

The story was so popular that even the Washington Post and TIME magazine couldn't ignore it. Some people even wanted the studios to make a movie based on the wife's story.

Who is Reesa Teesa?

Reesa Teesa (real name Teresa McCoy) is a content creator. She went through a tumultuous marriage that lasted more than a year with Legion - a man who was called a "pathological liar". This process was summarized by Reesa Teesa in 50 videos called "Who TF Did I Marry?".

Within hours of posting, her video quickly attracted hundreds of millions of views from internet users. The Washington Post even commented that this story made people "restless". She told the story in a straightforward way in the hope of helping women avoid the same trap as her.

In dozens of videos, Teesa talks to the camera as if she’s FaceTimed with a friend. Sometimes she’s wearing curlers or driving. She details how her relationship with her ex-husband developed after the Covid-19 pandemic, how they moved in together, got married in January 2021, and how things began to fall apart.

Each video of Teesa's cinematic love story is between nine and 10 minutes long. She posted the first part of the series on February 14.

The development of the story of a false love

Teesa met Legion in March 2020 through a dating app. During their first phone conversation, Legion introduced himself as a divorced former soccer player who used to live in California, USA. On their first date, he talked about wanting to get married, start a family, and own a house - a goal that Teesa also dreamed of.

During their months of courtship, Legion moved into the house Teesa was renting so they could weather the pandemic lockdown together. After discovering she was pregnant, Teesa felt the pressure. The two began to take their relationship more seriously and looked for a new home to build a family.

They looked at a few houses but never made a deal due to Legion's reasons. He promised to buy her a luxury car for transportation. However, no gift was delivered to the house.

Throughout the story, Teesa admits to the mistakes she made while with her ex-husband. She constantly overlooked the times he broke his word.

"I'm not stupid. But I really didn't realize the scam. No house was bought and I bought myself a car," the young woman confided.

After many incidents, Teesa could not keep the baby in her womb. She still chose to marry this man in January 2021 and the lies did not stop.

She applied for a new job and needed her husband’s social security number. Things got a little more complicated when she realized that his social security number was different from the one he had provided on their marriage certificate. She then did some research and learned that he had never lived in California and had been divorced at least twice before marrying her.

Through government records and conversations with Legion relatives, Teesa discovered that he had lied extensively about his family (pretending to have two sisters and two half-brothers, lying about family members dying from a pandemic when they had passed away years ago...).

She said Legion lied about his finances and his job. He wasn’t a regional manager or a vice president. Even the phone calls were fake. Legion was talking to himself.

Unable to bear it any longer, Teesa decided to file for divorce.

The wife's development potential

After Teesa's story "went viral" worldwide , the Washington Post sought information about her husband to confront him. However, the team was unable to reach him. A content creator "exposed" the identity of the male lead. Teesa requested that the content be removed, saying she did not want to be associated with her ex-husband.

The appeal of the "stormy" love story has prompted the online community to suggest the wife publish a book or make an inspirational film. In addition, some people have expressed their desire to wear a shirt with the words #WhoTFDidIMarry.

If this turns out to be true, Teesa is expected to receive a large payday in the form of a TV or movie deal, similar to the case of Aziah "Zola" King in 2005, who told of her experiences as a stripper in Rolling Stone magazine. The story was adapted into a 2020 film starring Taylor Paige.

“People are hungry for someone with a compelling narrative that they can listen to while brushing their teeth or doing the dishes. After Universal Music Group pulled its songs from the platform, there was a growing desire for non-audio content,” says Coco Mocoe, a 28-year-old podcast host and media trend forecaster based in Los Angeles.

Alex Pearlman, a comedian from Philadelphia, USA, believes that fans are drawn to Teesa because of her charming and genuine demeanor, despite what she has been through. Throughout the story, she has always reminded viewers that Legion is a human being. Normally, such a man would be called a "bad guy".

To Teesa, she stressed: "No, this is the man I married."

Teesa is also expected to appear on major entertainment shows as her fan base grows. Some people have begun to speculate on how much money she will make from her story.

Jordan Green, a popular British content creator who focuses on business and financial strategy, estimates that Teesa earns $4-5 for every 1,000 views. That could put her at $400,000. Some of her videos are nearly 10 minutes long. Platforms typically pay more based on the length of the video.

Now that the story is behind her, Reesa Teesa hopes to move on to the next chapter of her life by travelling. Many of her followers and some brands have offered to help with travel expenses.

Teesa is planning a trip to London, England - where she thought her ex-husband would take her.
