Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon continues to set a record with more than 15,000 people

In the 6th season, 2023, the event gathered more than 15,000 athletes registered to compete on the roads of Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, December 10, 2023 in 4 different distances from Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km), 10 km and 5 km and welcomed more than 30,000 visitors to the Marathon Village from December 8 - 10, 2023, continuing to affirm and maintain the position of one of the largest and most prestigious running races in Vietnam.

From 3:30 to 5:35 a.m. on December 10, 2023, the Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon welcomed 15,009 athletes, a record number of athletes starting at 4 distances from the area in front of the Zoo and Botanical Garden, Le Duan Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City and finishing at the Empire City area, Thu Duc City.

The event also affirmed its attraction when welcoming more than 700 international athletes from 91 countries and 5 continents to explore Ho Chi Minh City while competing on routes running through 5 districts in the city with 17 historical and cultural sites. The tournament was the highlight of the successful conclusion of Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Week which lasted for the past 7 days.

The tournament ensures professionalism and international quality standards when the Marathon and Half Marathon distances have always received official certificates from the Association of Marathon & International Athletics Federations (AIMS) since the second season. This is a prestigious commitment to the experience of all athletes from the Organizing Committee. Athletes have the opportunity to explore and experience many famous landmarks of the city such as Notre Dame Cathedral, City Post Office , Headquarters of the People's Council and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Opera House, Ba Son Bridge...

Not only stopping at the experiences on each running route, the event also brings a strong ripple effect in raising awareness of healthy lifestyles, along with preserving the identity and cultural beauty of the city to each participant. Thereby, introducing a dynamic, modern and colorful Ho Chi Minh City to international friends, contributing to the sustainable growth of the tourism industry and economy of Ho Chi Minh City.

Joining hands with the city's tourism industry to promote destinations and culinary culture of Ho Chi Minh City, businesses providing travel services, transportation, restaurants and hotels in the city have also launched many impressive tour programs, products, tourism services, transportation, shopping... with attractive promotion and incentive policies for athletes registering to participate in this year's season, typically the 30% discount program for athletes and relatives participating in the Marathon when using the services of Saco Travel; 5% discount program for athletes registering for BIB when using the services at Lua Viet Tours... along with hundreds of incentive programs to explore destinations and experience cuisine from units such as Saigontourist, Ben Thanh Tourist, VietLux Tour, Chim Canh Penguin Travel, Ao Dai Museum...

There were 94 individual awards given out and many personal records set.

In the men's marathon, Kenyan Yebei Edwin Kiptoo finished with a time of 2:27:30. Kenyan Kempoi Kipsan Joshua finished second, while Vietnamese Nguyen Van Lai finished third.

At the same Marathon distance, female athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh, from Vietnam, won the Marathon distance championship with a time of 2:46:26, breaking the 03:08:50 record of athlete Doan Thi Hien in 2022. Next was athlete Immaculate Chemutai, from Uganda, and athlete Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa, from Vietnam, who won 3rd place.

At the Closing Ceremony, Ms. Thai Minh Diem Tu - Director of Marketing Division of Techcombank donated 3.7 billion VND to the Support Funds in Ho Chi Minh City.

The 6th season of Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Event Week has truly come to an end with a series of impressive entertainment - experience - competition activities in three days from December 8 - 10, 2023, successfully leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of people nationwide and internationally. The 7th season is expected to continue in December 2024 under the close cooperation of the government - Organizing Committee - Sponsors and Partners, to continue creating positive legacies on the journey of "excelling every day" for the community.
