FPT University lecturer has many international publications on AI algorithm research

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Vinh's scientific research focuses on applied research, specifically Artificial Intelligence algorithms, supporting self-driving cars.

Mr. Vinh graduated with a PhD in Computer Science from Sungkyunkwan University, Korea.

Mr. Vinh has 4 scientific studies published in Q1 journals in the ISI/Scopus category. These studies include: "Feature Engineering and Deep Learning for Stereo Matching Under Adverse Driving Conditions"; "A Deep Learning Framework for Robust and Real-Time Taillight Detection Under Various Road Conditions"; "A Robust Triangular Sigmoid Pattern-Based Obstacle Detection Algorithm in Resource-Limited Devices" published in the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transporation System journal in 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Recently, Mr. Vinh has an article on the topic: "A Fusion of RGB Features and Local Descriptors for Object Detection in Road Scene" published in IEEE Accesss magazine.

"I like applied research, specifically on self-driving cars," Vinh shared. From there, these research results can be applied to other problems in fields such as education, healthcare, agriculture , etc.

In addition to teaching at FPT University, Mr. Vinh is also the Head of Artificial Intelligence Research Group at AI Vietnam.

Believing that "scientific research is one of the main pillars of university education", in addition to focusing on personal research, Mr. Vinh regularly guides and supports FPT University students in scientific research.

In 2021, Mr. Vinh first guided a group of students to research the topic "Building an autonomous vehicle system simulating real-world conditions on a Raspberry PI circuit". This research won second prize in the FPT Edu Research Festival organized by FPT Education Organization. The group also submitted a report to the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation System journal.

"It took 2 years (2021-2023) for this research to be approved for publication. It was also a memorable time when I accompanied the students to discuss and clarify the research process and results with the journal. Through that, the group of students learned a lot about research methods and publishing scientific articles," Vinh shared. The results of the project were also the foundation for a student in the group to be recruited into the research department on AI applications in healthcare at FPT Software Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Vinh highly appreciates the role of scientific research activities in supporting the training of knowledge and skills for students. According to him, the research process helps FPT University students practice their skills of discovery, critical thinking, problem solving, and readiness to enter the labor market.

This year, Mr. Vinh continues to guide a group of students to participate in the final round of the scientific research competition with the topic of applying AI to agriculture.

"I often apply two teaching methods: Constructivism and problem-based learning to guide students in conducting scientific research. This method helps students proactively find solutions to problems," said Vinh. Periodically, teachers and students doing scientific research at FPT University Can Tho branch will organize sessions to introduce and exchange new research methods and technologies.

In the near future, Mr. Vinh plans to build a scientific research group to support FPT University students in participating in research and having many international publications. In addition, he and the University's lecturers will connect with businesses to make efforts to put research into practice.

In 2024, FPT University will enroll students in the following majors: Information Technology (Semiconductor Design, Digital Automotive Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Information Security, Digital Design), Business Administration (Digital Marketing, International Business, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Hotel Management, Tourism & Travel Services Management, Finance); Communication Technology (Multimedia Communications, Public Relations), English Language, Japanese Language, Korean Language and Chinese Language.
