Thanh Hoa education leaves its mark, faces new challenges

GD&TĐ - On the afternoon of August 23, the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province held a conference to summarize the 2024-2025 school year and deploy tasks for the 2025-2026 school year.

Attending the conference were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung; representatives of leaders of provincial departments and branches; representatives of leaders of localities, units, schools, and a large number of teachers and students with excellent achievements in the 2024-2025 school year.

Many achievements

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Thanh Hoa province Department of Education and Training has strived to complete the set goals and tasks in the spirit of comprehensive innovation with many outstanding results. The quality of education and training at all levels of preschool and general education has been consolidated and developed.

In particular, the quality of key education remains at the top, the quality of mass education continues to improve. In the national excellent student exam in cultural subjects, Thanh Hoa had 77/90 students winning prizes (85.6% rate), ranking 5th nationwide), an increase of 9 prizes compared to the previous school year.

At the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Japan, Thanh Hoa had 1 student from Hau Loc 2 High School winning a Silver Medal; 4 students participated in the second round of the selection exam for the international Olympic team in Mathematics, Physics and Informatics.

In the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, Thanh Hoa ranked 7th out of 34 provinces and cities after the merger, up 7 places compared to 2024; 99.49% of students passed the High School Graduation Exam with 1,031 points of 10. There was 1 student who achieved the top score in the X06 combination nationwide; 7 runners-up nationwide... contributing to Thanh Hoa being in the top of the country in key education.

The 2025-2026 school year is the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030. Along with major changes when the two-level local government comes into operation, the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training determines to focus on solving difficulties and problems and guiding school units, the Department of Culture and Social Affairs of communes and wards; advising localities on implementing professional tasks and developing education to quickly adapt to the two-level local government; reviewing, arranging and reorganizing the scale of schools and classes.

Focus on improving the quality of preschool education; synchronously and effectively deploying and improving the quality of the 2018 General Education Program, the Literacy Eradication Program, the Continuing Education Program at the junior high school and high school levels; managing extra teaching and learning in accordance with regulations in the area; the issue of teaching 2 sessions/day in accordance with regulations and in accordance with the practical conditions of schools.

Overcoming difficulties and adapting to the two-tier government model

Besides the achievements, Thanh Hoa education sector still has some limitations, especially the shortage of teachers; a number of teachers have substandard qualifications; the quality of education is still different between regions, between public and non-public schools.

The quality of cultural and vocational teaching in some vocational and continuing education centers is not sustainable; the quality of foreign language teaching and learning does not meet the requirements of educational and training innovation. Facilities and equipment in some schools are still difficult and lacking...

Discussing at the conference, delegates focused on analyzing and clarifying many issues related to improving the quality of education at all levels; difficulties and obstacles in education work in the context of implementing a two-level local government; experiences in improving the quality of key education...

Mr. Dau Thanh Tung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged and commended the achievements of the education sector in the past school year.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung also frankly pointed out the shortcomings, limitations and requirements for the entire education sector in the coming time. At the same time, he requested delegates to focus on carefully analyzing the advantages and difficulties; assessing and forecasting the impact of major trends, especially in the context of digital transformation, innovation, knowledge-based economic development and the trend of taking learners as the center of education and training. On that basis, discuss and propose practical, effective solutions suitable to the new situation, in order to improve the quality of implementing political tasks in the entire sector.

“The 2025-2026 school year is a year of special importance, requiring the education sector to urgently develop plans, organize guidance and promptly answer questions for communes and wards about issues within its management scope; at the same time, direct educational institutions to implement professional tasks, ensure quick adaptation to the 2-level local government model, maintain stable and continuous operations, successfully complete the set goals and tasks; overcome the situation of local surplus and shortage of teachers”, the Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee emphasized.

On behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, Vice Chairman Dau Thanh Tung awarded the Third Class Labor Medal to 5 individuals.

Two groups received the Government's Emulation Flag.

Individuals with achievements contributing to the education sector received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister.

Leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training awarded certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to students and teachers with achievements.

On this occasion, authorized by the President, Mr. Dau Thanh Tung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, awarded the Third Class Labor Medal to 5 individuals; presented the Government's emulation flag to 2 groups: Le Loi High School and Cam Ba Thuoc High School; presented the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to 1 group and 35 individuals.

Awarding certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and bonuses to teachers and students who won silver medals at the 2025 Asian Mathematics Competition; awarding certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to 8 groups and 52 students with high achievements in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.

The Provincial Association also awarded teachers and students who won silver medals at the 2025 Asian Mathematics Competition; and 52 students with high achievements in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.

Mr. Dau Thanh Tung, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, requested the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with relevant units to complete the procurement of missing equipment for all levels of education by the fourth quarter of 2025 at the latest; proactively survey and evaluate the professional quality of the Department of Culture and Society in charge of education to have a training plan, select and second teachers from educational institutions to support the Department of Culture and Society to ensure smooth educational activities.
