I have a bachelor's degree in PhysicalEducation from a university of education. If I want to teach Physical Education at the elementary level, is that possible, or do I have to study pedagogical skills before I can teach elementary school? (vandong***@gmail.com)

The standard training level of primary school teachers is implemented according to the provisions in Point b, Clause 1, Article 72 of the 2019 Law on Education, specifically as follows: Have a bachelor's degree in teacher training or higher for primary, middle and high school teachers. In case the subject does not have enough teachers with a bachelor's degree in teacher training, they must have a bachelor's degree in a suitable major and a certificate of pedagogical training.

According to the List of statistics on university-level training majors issued with Circular No. 09/2022/TT-BGDDT dated June 6, 2022 of the Minister of Education and Training stipulating the List of statistics on training majors of higher education, the Physical Education major (major code 7140206) belongs to the group of teacher training majors.

Based on the above regulations and your letter, if you have a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from a university of education, you are considered to have met the standard training level of a primary school teacher. Accordingly, you do not have to study for a certificate of pedagogical training for people with a bachelor's degree in a relevant major who wish to become a primary school teacher.

I majored in English Pedagogy. Currently, I am an English teacher in a private elementary school and have been assigned as a homeroom teacher of a class. My school principal said that all teachers in elementary schools can be assigned as homeroom teachers, so this is a natural job, not a part-time job. I would like to ask, is it a part-time job for an English teacher to be a homeroom teacher? (minhtrang***@gmail.com)

Articles 9, 10, and 11 of Circular No. 05/2025/TT-BGDDT dated March 7, 2025 of the Minister of Education and Training stipulating the working regime for general education and pre-university teachers detail the part-time duties of teachers. Accordingly, the homeroom teacher is one of the part-time duties. You can study and refer to the provisions of this Circular to compare with your specific case.
