"At first, I only practiced to improve my health. Before that, my body was weak and I sometimes got sick. Then gradually, I felt my health improve a lot and loved this sport more. Once, the Bac Giang Province Wushu Team recruited members, so I joined and was selected. In 2015, I was called to practice at the National Wushu Team in Hanoi," Thu Thuy shared.

To achieve these achievements, Thu Thuy has constantly strived and trained herself in the face of countless difficulties and challenges. "Many years ago, the facilities and training conditions were not as good as they are now. I often practiced punching with sandbags or sawdust. At first, I was not used to it, so my arms and legs were bruised, even bleeding. Looking back on the past journey, I feel happy because I did not give up, thanks to the dedicated teaching of the coaches, I have the current Thu Thuy", she said.
Psychology is a very important factor
At the 2023 World Wushu Championship, Thu Thuy competed excellently and won the gold medal in the women's 60 kg competition, bringing glory to herself, her family and her country. Previously, at the 2017 and 2019 World Wushu Championships, this female martial artist won bronze and silver medals, respectively.
Thu Thuy continued: "In September 2023, I participated in the wushu event at the ASIAD and only won a bronze medal after losing to my Indian opponent Roshibina Devi NAOREM. 2 months later, I was surprised to meet her again on the final stage of the World Wushu Championship. Because I had been defeated before, I was under a lot of pressure and could not help but feel wary. However, I quickly regained my composure, overcame the pressure and was determined to defeat my opponent. I told myself that no matter what, I must not give up."

Sharing her secret to competing, Thu Thuy said: "I play with a mindset, focusing more on technique. I also practice hard to have good physical strength. I summarize lessons learned after each match to overcome my weaknesses and have appropriate tactics. The most important thing is to have a confident mentality. Before the competition day, you should eat and rest well, and when you get on the stage, you must give your all for the flag and the shirt."
Thu Thuy said that in the coming time, she will continue to contribute to the Vietnam Wushu Team. Ms. Nguyen Thanh Loan (41 years old), coach of the Bac Giang Province Wushu Team, commented: "In training and competition, Thuy clearly shows her efforts. She is always mentally stable, has courage, will, and a lot of experience in domestic and international competitions. I am extremely proud of my student. I hope that in the future, Thuy will maintain her form and try even harder because the road ahead is still very long and arduous."
