Accordingly, an angler named Andrzej Korpikiewicz was fishing on the Vistula River in Warsaw, Poland when he unexpectedly found a strange ancient artifact. Photo: @Andrzej Korpikiewicz.

It is a sword estimated to date back to the Middle Ages. Andrzej Korpikiewicz discovered the sword protruding from sediments next to the Vistula River in Tarchomin, a district north of Warsaw, Poland. Photo: @Andrzej Korpikiewicz.

It is likely that the sword was carried by the Vistula River, an alluvial river that frequently changes its course. Photo: @Andrzej Korpikiewicz.

The sword is currently in the care of the Warsaw Monuments Conservation Center and is very well preserved, with both the blade and hilt intact. Photo: @Andrzej Korpikiewicz.

The hilt bears a strange cross symbol, similar in design to the Maltese cross used by the Knights Hospitaller or the Templars, but any connection the sword has with these religious orders of knighthood is at this stage speculative. Photo: @Andrzej Korpikiewicz.

“It is still unclear where this sword came from, and the Vistula River still holds many secrets,” said Michał Krasucki, a representative of the Polish Monuments Conservation Agency. Photo: @Andrzej Korpikiewicz.

The sword will soon be transferred to the Metal Conservation Workshop at the Polish State Museum of Archaeology, where experts will conduct conservation work and uncover its true mysterious origins. Photo: @Andrzej Korpikiewicz.
