Integrated driving license for cars and motorcycles, what should I do to separate them for use?

In 2013, the Ministry of Transport issued Circular No. 38/2013 requiring that car and motorbike driving licenses begin to switch to plastic cards (PET material) from March 1, 2014, and also required that both types be combined into a single driving license.

This is to ensure that there is only one management number, used for both unlimited and limited licenses. However, combining two driving licenses for cars and motorbikes into one has caused many inconveniences as well as many problems when traffic police handle violators.

Because there are currently many people using integrated driving licenses for cars and motorbikes, the need to separate them to avoid losing both and to facilitate traffic violation penalties is very high.

What should I do if I want to separate my car and motorcycle driving license for separate use? — **Integrated driving licenses cause many inconveniences during use.**

Pursuant to Article 38 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT amended by Clause 7, Article 2 of Circular 01/2021/TT-BGTVT on procedures for separating indefinite and limited-term driving licenses as follows.

First, the driver needs to prepare a set of documents to send directly or by online declaration to the Vietnam Road Administration or the Department of Transport (https://dichvucong.gov.vn), including:

- Application for changing driving license according to prescribed form. (Original)

- Driver's health certificate issued by a competent medical facility. (Original)

- Driver's license, identity card (ID) or citizen identification card (CCCD) or valid passport with ID number or CCCD for Vietnamese or valid passport for foreigners, Vietnamese people residing abroad. (Notarized copy).

When carrying out the procedure for changing a driving license, in case of submitting documents directly, the driver must take a photo directly at the driving license issuing agency and must present the original copies of the above documents (except for the originals already submitted) for comparison.

In case of submitting documents via the online public service system, individuals must declare according to the instructions and be responsible for the accuracy and legality of the declared content; when receiving a new driver's license, the old driver's license must be returned for filing.

According to Circular No. 188/2016/TT-BTC of the Minister of Finance, in case a driver wants to separate 2 driving licenses for cars and motorbikes, he/she will need to pay a fee of 270,000 VND. The time will not exceed 5 working days from the date of receiving complete documents.

The return of the driving license will be done directly at the agency receiving the application or through postal service at the individual's request.
