Spreading love in remote areas.

In the sweltering heat of mid-July, when most students chose to return home for a rest after a stressful semester, 45 volunteer students from Nam Can Tho University headed to Dak Lak with their youthful energy, enthusiasm, and hearts yearning to contribute to the community.

The journey of these young people began on July 13th in Ea Rok and Ia Lop communes. These are two localities with a large population of ethnic minorities, facing many difficulties.

Upon arriving in the area, the volunteer soldiers immediately began working on specific tasks. One of the outstanding projects was the "National Flag Road" in the border commune of Ia Lốp. With a budget of 10 million VND, 50 flagpoles and the red flag with a yellow star were installed along the main roads, contributing to beautifying the rural landscape and arousing patriotism and national pride in each citizen.

In addition, in Ea Rok commune, the "Lighting Up Rural Roads" project was implemented with 6 solar-powered streetlights to illuminate the road leading to the commune center, ensuring safety for people traveling at night.

The "Noodle Shop of Love" in Ea Rốk commune is always crowded with customers every afternoon.

Beyond focusing on infrastructure, students from Nam Can Tho University also give back to the community through meaningful charitable activities. The university's student union donated 20 gifts to families receiving social welfare benefits and 50 educational gifts to poor students in Ia Lop commune. They also organized free haircuts, disseminated information on HIV prevention, combating sexual abuse and human trafficking, and distributed hundreds of gifts including textbooks and school supplies to children.

Among the volunteer activities, there's a "Noodle Shop of Love" nestled under a tree, with a steaming pot of broth, nimble hands preparing ingredients, and the warm smiles of the volunteers. Simple and unpretentious, yet it has become a meeting place of human kindness in a region still facing many hardships. In just one week, nearly 2,000 bowls of hot noodles were delivered by the volunteers to students and residents of Ea Rốk commune. For these young people, each bowl of noodles is a greeting, a warm hug, a way to bridge the gap between urban youth and people in remote areas.

Mr. Pham Dac Hoang Vu, Deputy Secretary of the Ea Rok Commune Youth Union, shared: “As soon as we received information about Nam Can Tho University organizing activities in the area, the Commune Youth Union formed a volunteer team of 30 volunteers to respond. With their proactive spirit, responsibility, discipline, and strong sense of community, they have contributed to spreading a positive image of youth to the people. The projects and tasks carried out not only have material value but also carry profound spiritual significance, creating a strong bond between young people and the local community.”

Volunteers not only come to "give," but also "receive" many valuable things. These include the experience of living amidst the vast wilderness, practical lessons, and opportunities to understand the lives of people in disadvantaged areas. Through each activity, a sense of responsibility, maturity, life skills, and solidarity are fostered in each young person.

As a leader, Nguyen Van Toan, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Management, Nam Can Tho University, is not only a guide but also an inspiration for this meaningful journey.

The "National Flag Road" project was carried out by young people in Ia Lốp commune.

Toan and the campaign command team meticulously planned everything from surveying the area and coordinating with local authorities to clearly dividing tasks and, most importantly, being prepared for unexpected situations such as bad weather or changes in personnel. “With a long campaign in an unfamiliar area, maintaining team morale is a significant challenge. Therefore, after each activity, the whole team sits together every evening to socialize, share feelings, and encourage each other. This has helped the volunteer team not only work effectively but also become as close-knit as a family,” Toan shared.

For Tran Dien Ha (Law major, Nam Can Tho University), participating in a large-scale volunteer activity for the first time, a week-long volunteering trip to Dak Lak was an emotionally enriching journey of personal growth, motivating her to live not only for herself but also for others.

The campaign ended, and the team left Dak Lak carrying with them hurried hugs from children, firm handshakes from the locals, and a sense of regret for not being able to do more. But that journey had sown seeds of hope, illuminated paths, dreams, and a corner of the heart of each young person.
