Preserving the cultural beauty of ethnic groups.

Việt NamViệt Nam21/01/2024

Within the shared culture of the Ha Nhi ethnic community, they have created many dances to serve folk beliefs and spiritual practices, reflecting a collective spirit. Their performing arts are also very diverse, encompassing dances such as: drum dance, field-going dance, weaving dance, hat dance, farewell dance, and xòe dance… Each traditional folk song and dance of the Ha Nhi people possesses its own unique character and identity. Their dances, in particular, feature simple movements, without the vigorous turns and jumps of other ethnic groups, yet they are highly collective and communal in nature.

In Muong Nha district, over time, although there were times when it seemed that the folk songs and dances of the Ha Nhi community were gradually fading away, today, thanks to the efforts of the Party committees and authorities at all levels, especially the determination of the elders here, these folk songs and dances have developed strongly within the community.

Mr. Pờ Chinh Phạ, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sín Thầu commune, shared: In Mường Nhé, the Hà Nhì ethnic group is distributed across four border communes: Chung Chải, Leng Su Sìn, Sín Thầu, and Sen Thượng. For many years, despite the difficulties in their material lives, the traditional songs and dances have served as a bond connecting the community, helping the Hà Nhì people to continuously strive for progress. Furthermore, through practicing and performing folk songs and dances, this has proven to be an effective model of collective activity, making a significant contribution to preserving, conserving, and promoting the traditional cultural values of the Hà Nhì people in the process of national integration.

Drawing inspiration from the beauty of folk songs and dances, in recent years, various levels of government and sectors have shown greater interest by regularly organizing folk song, dance, and music competitions and performances, or integrating them into cultural, sports , and tourism events such as the Ethnic Culture Festival and the Hoa Ban Festival. At the 7th Dien Bien Province Ethnic Culture, Sports, and Tourism Festival in March 2023, the folk song, dance, and music festival created an authentic and vibrant space, fully showcasing the life, customs, and cultural identity of the province's 19 ethnic groups. All these elements combined to create a diverse and colorful space, vividly reflecting the culture, land, and people of Dien Bien and the Northwest region , attracting viewers and tourists from all over.

Concerned about folk performing arts, relevant agencies have recently taken many practical actions to preserve and promote folk songs and dances. At the end of 2020, the Department of Grassroots Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) collaborated with the Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize a training course on preserving and developing the folk songs and dances of the Si La ethnic group in conjunction with tourism development in Chung Chai commune, Muong Nha district. The training course attracted a large number of people and trainees of all ages to learn the characteristic folk songs and dances of the Si La ethnic group, such as: love songs, lullabies, seasonal songs, New Year songs; Xoe dance, Sap dance, seed sowing dance, field clearing dance, harvest prayer dance…

In Dien Bien Phu City, at the end of 2023, the Department of Education and Training, in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized training for administrators and teachers on the development of folk songs, folk dances, folk music, and street dances. This aimed to preserve, transmit, and promote the unique values of traditional folk songs, folk dances, and folk music of ethnic minorities in the province; to raise awareness and responsibility among students and teachers in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values; and to strengthen information and communication through various forms to introduce and promote the image of local cultural heritage, contributing to the creation of distinctive tourism products that attract tourists to Dien Bien Phu…
