The tomb of Heroine Phan Thi Rang, a member of the People's Armed Forces, lies at the foot of Hon Dat Cave. It is well-maintained and regularly cleaned and cared for by the locals. There, a dedicated individual recounts the story of her revolutionary activities and heroic sacrifice to visitors from near and far… “Knowing they could not shake the spirit and will of this revolutionary soldier, on the afternoon of January 9, 1962, the enemy brought Phan Thi Rang to the foot of Hon Dat mountain and executed her. That year, she was just 25 years old,” Mr. Dat recounted in a somber voice. These emotionally charged explanations brought tears to the eyes of many locals and tourists visiting Phan Thi Rang's tomb, further inspiring their admiration for the unwavering and indomitable spirit of this heroine from Hon Dat.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat is giving a guided tour to tourists at the tomb of Hero of the People's Armed Forces Phan Thi Rang.

Before becoming a tour guide, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat was a teacher and the Head of the Youth Union at Soc Son Junior High School. During that time, he regularly organized activities for students to visit historical sites and pay respects at the tomb of Phan Thi Rang to educate them about revolutionary traditions. In 2012, when the Phan Thi Rang Festival was first held at the Ba Hon National Historical and Scenic Site, thanks to his expressive voice and excellent hosting skills, Mr. Dat was invited to host youth events and many activities within the festival. In 2019, when the Management Board of the historical site needed a tour guide to introduce and recount the revolutionary life of the heroine Phan Thi Rang to visitors, Mr. Dat applied to work there.

Thanks to his deep, warm, and expressive voice, Mr. Dat quickly made his mark as a tour guide. To tell historical stories that resonate with listeners, he constantly learns and hones his presentation skills, including breathing techniques, intonation, and emphasis on each word. He also listens to feedback from colleagues to adjust his storytelling to be more authentic, relatable, and engaging.

Mr. Dat also spent a lot of time researching the life and revolutionary activities of Ms. Phan Thi Rang through books, historical documents, and stories still passed down in folklore. He met with Ms. Phan Thi Rang's relatives, younger siblings, and nieces and nephews; listened to local people who had been influenced and indoctrinated by her revolutionary ideals, and to her comrades who had fought alongside her in the past. “From these real-life stories, I gained valuable material to recreate a more relatable and vivid image of Ms. Phan Thi Rang for the listeners. The more I learned, the more I admired her unwavering loyalty, indomitable spirit, and heroic sacrifice. Therefore, each time I tell stories about Ms. Phan Thi Rang, I not only explain history but also convey my feelings, gratitude, and deep appreciation for this national heroine,” Mr. Dat shared.

Having led many tour groups to visit the Ba Hon National Historical and Scenic Site, and having listened to Mr. Dat's explanations about the life and career of the heroine Phan Thi Rang, Le Hong Y, a tour guide from Vietravel An Giang branch, shared: “Mr. Dat tells stories very truthfully, expressively, and with great emotion. Every time I hear him tell the story, I am moved. Through his stories, the image of Phan Thi Rang appears very close and resilient, helping me and the tourists understand more about history and appreciate the sacrifices of our ancestors even more.”

Regularly organizing field trips for students to the Ba Hon National Historical and Scenic Site and to visit the tomb of heroine Phan Thi Rang, Mr. Mai Ngoc Luyen - Principal of Phan Thi Rang Junior and Senior High School - said that Mr. Dat's lectures help students gain a deeper understanding of the life, revolutionary career, and heroic sacrifice of heroine Phan Thi Rang. "Through Mr. Dat's emotional storytelling, students not only learn about local history but also feel proud and grateful to the previous generation. This is also a very visual, vivid, and impactful way to educate students about revolutionary traditions," Mr. Luyen said.

During peak seasons, festivals, or major anniversaries, Mr. Dat guides over 2,000 tourists daily. He has also guided numerous delegations of central and local leaders who come to offer incense and visit. Each time he guides, he maintains a meticulous and expressive style in every word. For him, each tour is about recounting historical events, contributing to preserving historical memory, and spreading the values of revolutionary tradition to today's generation.
