At the press conference to launch “GOm Show – Sound from Ceramics”, the atmosphere of the auditorium was recreated in an artistic depth – where Vietnamese ceramic art and culture blend in the form of sound. Under the guidance of journalist Truong Uyen Ly, the event introduced the overall idea, message and passionate creative journey behind this unique experimental music project.
Overview of the press conference launching "GOm Show - Sound from ceramics"
“GOm Show – Sound from Ceramics” is the first music performance in Vietnam that focuses on ceramics as both musical instruments and artistic inspiration. The project is carried out by the Dan Do artist group – a pioneering group of artists pursuing creativity with a strong indigenous spirit. With the philosophy of “taking culture as the root, taking people as the energy”, the Dan Do group has crafted a unique system of musical instruments from ceramics such as Chum Drum (using earthenware jars and inner tubes to create super low sound like a giant bass), Lang Drum (shaped like a rice cake, warm low sound like an echo from the ground), Rotating Pottery (resonating by rotating the hand on the mouth of the pottery, creating a soft reverberating effect), Dan Nieu (gentle sound reverberating from earthenware pots), Ceramic Gong & Ceramic Bell (creating sound from baked earth with a unique timbre structure, each one is a separate sound entity)… – each type of musical instrument has unique sound characteristics, simulating the echo from the ground, the breath of fire, or the rhythm of simple life.

Experienced senior artists and young artists – the predecessors and the younger generation – together “mould” a diverse musical space, both rich in traditional depth and spreading a contemporary spirit.
GOm Show not only tells stories through music but also through culture. The sound in the show does not follow the direction of description or explanation, but suggests and connects with the listener's soul through the expression of the musical instruments and the performing artists.
The program includes performances with names such as “Return”, “That Time”, “Downstream”, “Find Hani”… taking viewers on a journey through indigenous cultural regions such as the Northwest, Central Highlands, South Central Coast with the unique voices of the M'nong, Ede, Ha Nhi, Lo Lo ethnic groups… combined with creative musical instruments, folk and modern sounds, creating a multi-layered experience that is both rustic and soaring. At GOm Show, each layer of sound will awaken the imagination, evoke cultural memories, leading listeners through “morning - festival - afternoon - return”, in a diverse but unified cultural sound: a Vietnamese soul.
GOm Show is inspired by ceramic culture, opening up a diverse but unified cultural and sound space.
Speaking at the press conference, the representative of the creative group said that GOM Show is the next milestone in the Dan Do group’s journey of more than 12 years of researching indigenous materials, and at the same time, a special step forward in the flow of contemporary Vietnamese music. The project also marks the intersection between two generations of artists – the older generation and the younger generation – together “molding” a diverse musical space, both rich in traditional depth and spreading a contemporary spirit.
“GOM Show – Sound from Ceramics” will officially premiere on June 28 and 29 at the Hanoi Opera House. GOM Show is an invitation for the audience to explore the depth of Vietnamese culture through music - with all the throbbing, gentleness and strength of the earth. The program promises to be an impressive highlight of Vietnam’s contemporary art scene this summer./.
