Google Upgrades Gemini AI with Smart Device Management

According to DigitalTrends , Google has just widely rolled out a new feature in the Gemini AI app that allows users to control smart home devices such as lights, air conditioners, or smart speakers. This feature, called Google Home Extension, will be available globally in the coming weeks.

When you update to the new version, compatible devices that are already synced to your Google account will automatically connect to Gemini. You can use commands in the Gemini app to perform basic tasks, from adjusting the lights to checking the room temperature. For more complex commands that aren't directly supported, the Google Home app will automatically open to complete the request, such as accessing a security camera or using a smart lock.

Gemini AI supports a wide range of devices, including smart light bulbs, switches, air conditioners, blinds, speakers, TVs, as well as home appliances like washing machines, coffee makers, and vacuum cleaners. However, Google emphasizes that the feature is limited to “convenience” tasks and does not support security-related requests, such as unlocking a door.

To use this feature, users simply need to connect the Google Home app to Gemini. After that, any device linked to the Google Home account will be ready to receive commands through Gemini. Users will be prompted with some commands such as creating a romantic atmosphere in the dining room, adjusting the air conditioner to sleep, turning off the TV and lights, closing the curtains or cleaning the kitchen with a vacuum cleaner.

Google Home's expanded features on Gemini are rolling out gradually, so users should check the app regularly to stay updated and enjoy these new features.
