Google will replace Prabhakar Raghavan, head of search and ads, with longtime executive Nick Fox.
According to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Mr. Raghavan will move to the role of CTO after 12 years leading teams at Google.
"Prabhakar decided it was time to take a big leap in his own career," Mr. Pichai wrote in a blog post on October 17.
Google continues to restructure its divisions to move faster in the AI race, while also dealing with a number of antitrust lawsuits related to its search and advertising businesses.
Meanwhile, Nick Fox, a longtime member of his predecessor's leadership team, will lead Google's Knowledge and Information division, which includes search, advertising and commerce products.
Fox joined Google in 2003 and has been vice president of product and design for the Assistant in recent years. Prior to that, he worked in advertising sales.
“Over the past several years, Nick has played a key role in shaping Google’s AI product roadmap and worked closely with Prabhakar,” Pichai wrote.
Raghavan has been in charge of the Knowledge and Information division since 2018. Earlier this year, he asked employees to prepare for a different reality because “things are not the same as they were 15-20 years ago,” according to CNBC .
Additionally, CEO Pichai announced that the Gemini app development team will be merged with Google DeepMind under the leadership of Demis Hassabis. This will improve feedback loops, allowing for rapid deployment of new models in Gemini.
