Celebrating local cuisine to boost tourism
According to the culinary website TasteAtlas, Vietnam ranked 19th in the list of the 100 best cuisines in the world in 2024. Cuisine creates a strong attraction for Vietnamese tourism, because according to the World Food Tourism Organization, up to 81% of international tourists want to learn about local cuisine.
Hue City is home to a rich culinary culture with more than 1,700 out of 3,000 Vietnamese dishes, recorded in the "Hoi Dien" of the Nguyen Dynasty. In particular, royal cuisine has long been considered a characteristic, the foundation that creates the difference. Culinary resources are therefore one of the competitive advantages of tourism in the ancient capital.
Since the end of 2018, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province has approved the outline of the Project "Hue - Culinary Capital" until 2025, with a vision to 2030 to preserve, maintain and promote the quintessence of Hue cuisine, thereby contributing significantly to the shaping of a cultural industry of Hue.
In line with this goal, in early 2025, Grab Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding with Hue City. This cooperation agreement on promoting digital transformation includes promoting digital transformation in the tourism sector, leveraging technological strengths to promote Hue’s heritage, culture and cuisine.

Within the framework of the cooperation agreement, Grab Vietnam and the Hue City Department of Tourism organized the first "Famous Hue" Award Ceremony for local eateries and restaurants. This is an activity of the "Hue - Culinary Capital" Festival hosted by the Hue Department of Tourism on the occasion of the April 30 - May 1 holiday.
According to information from the Hue City Department of Tourism, the event is organized to demonstrate, introduce and promote Vietnamese cuisine in general and Hue cuisine in particular to tourists and people in the city; thereby contributing to preserving, conserving and promoting the traditional values of Vietnamese cuisine.
Grab contributes to creating digital experiences
At the event, the two sides jointly awarded the "Famous Restaurant of Hue" award to 26 local restaurants.
The award was selected based on a synthesis of two sources, including: reviews from Grab users when experiencing restaurants and eateries in Hue that are cooperating with GrabFood, and recommendations from the Hue City Department of Tourism through consultation with experts, travel associations and actual surveys from tourists.
In order to support local culinary establishments to reach their target customer groups more effectively, GrabFood has personalized the interface and dish recommendations for domestic and international customer groups. Thanks to that, the number of diners who can access and enjoy the dishes and directly rate the delicious restaurants has increased significantly, helping to make the quantitative results more objective, which is convincing evidence for the awards of the honored delicious restaurants.
Restaurants are awarded in three main categories. The "Famous Flavor" category honors typical and famous culinary businesses that have contributed to preserving and spreading the traditional Hue culinary flavors.
The "Most Loved" category recognizes the efforts of restaurants and eateries that are highly appreciated by the user community for the quality of their food and services on GrabFood.
In addition, the "Growth Star" category recognizes units with innovation, creativity and impressive growth rate on the platform.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Ms. Dang Thuy Trang, Director of External Relations of Grab Vietnam, shared: "The initiative of the 'Famous Restaurants of Hue' Award Ceremony became a reality thanks to the support and close cooperation from the Hue City Department of Tourism. We believe that this activity will continue to contribute to the cooperation between Grab and Hue City in general and the Hue City Department of Tourism in particular in strongly promoting the image of Hue as a unique Culinary Capital, contributing to promoting Hue cuisine".
