The Swedish striker is reportedly at odds with Sporting's leadership after failing to reach an agreement to leave the club for a move to the Premier League. Gyokeres was reportedly upset that Sporting did not keep their promise to lower his release clause from €100 million to €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons as previously agreed. However, President Frederico Varandas completely denies this.
Gyokeres threatened to go on strike and declared he would not play for Sporting if the club continued to make things difficult. However, President Varandas insisted he would not accept any pressure tactics, and stated that Sporting had not received any official transfer offers for Gyokeres, neither from Arsenal nor Manchester United.
Meanwhile, reports from the English press indicate that Arsenal have submitted a new offer and Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has flown to London to finalize the deal. However, Varandas remains firm: “I can guarantee that Gyokeres will not leave for €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons. I never made such a promise. To this day, Sporting has not received any offer for him.”
Gyokeres has removed all information related to Sporting, the Swedish national team, and Nike from his personal Instagram account. He has three years remaining on his contract with the Portuguese club, but wants to leave after two impressive seasons.
Since joining Sporting in the summer of 2023, Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 matches. Last season alone, he scored 54 goals in 52 games, including a hat-trick against Man City in the Champions League and 39 league goals in just 33 league matches.
