Ha Tuyen province was established in December 1975 by merging the two provinces of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang . Upon merger, Ha Tuyen province comprised two towns: Tuyen Quang town and Ha Giang town, and 13 districts: Bac Quang, Chiem Hoa, Dong Van, Ham Yen, Hoang Su Phi, Meo Vac, Na Hang, Quan Ba, Son Duong, Vi Xuyen, Xin Man, Yen Minh, and Yen Son. On August 12, 1991, the 9th session of the 8th National Assembly passed a resolution dividing Ha Tuyen province to re-establish Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces.
At that time, Ha Giang province consisted of Ha Giang town and 9 districts: Bac Me, Bac Quang, Dong Van, Hoang Su Phi, Meo Vac, Quan Ba, Vi Xuyen, Xin Man, and Yen Minh.
Tuyen Quang province comprises Tuyen Quang town and 5 districts: Chiem Hoa, Ham Yen, Na Hang, Son Duong, and Yen Son.

Lồng Tồng Festival
The Lồng Tồng Festival is one of the largest and most vibrant traditional festivals of the Tay ethnic group, held at the beginning of the Lunar New Year to express the villagers' wishes for favorable weather, abundant harvests, and prosperity and happiness for all.
Traditionally, the Lồng Tông festival consists of a ceremonial part and a festive part. The ceremonial part mainly involves offering sacrifices to heaven and earth and the deities to grant favorable weather, good health for the people, lush vegetation, and a bountiful harvest.
Following the ceremonial part is the festive part with unique dances performed by Tay boys and girls, such as scarf dances and fan dances. Locals and tourists participate together in folk games such as throwing the ball, tug-of-war, brocade weaving competitions, kite fighting, stilt walking, spinning top games, crossbow shooting, rice planting competitions, and buffalo plowing competitions, creating a joyful atmosphere for the first day of spring. These traditional folk games in the festival reflect the rich spiritual beauty, connected to nature and the long-standing cultural customs of the Tay people.

Along with men men (corn porridge), smoked buffalo meat, corn wine, etc., thang co is one of the must-try specialties when visiting the Dong Van Stone Plateau in Ha Giang.
This is a traditional dish of the Hmong ethnic group, famous in Sapa and Ha Giang. From a rustic, long-standing specialty of the Hmong people served during important festivals and markets, Thang Co has gradually become known to tourists through word of mouth, and has become a dish sought after by visitors whenever they come to this land.

Tay Con Linh
Tay Con Linh is a mountain peak in the upper reaches of the Chay River in western Ha Giang province. The Tay Con Linh mountain range stretches across Hoang Su Phi and Vi Xuyen districts, 46 km from Ha Giang city. At 2,431 meters, it is the highest peak in the Northeast region, often called the "roof of the Northeast". A geodetic marker is located at the summit. At the foot of the mountain lies a well-preserved subtropical primary forest. Tay Con Linh is considered a sacred mountain range by the La Chi ethnic group.
