Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan had a bilateral meeting with a Dutch delegation led by Minister of Nature and Nitrogen Policy Christianne van der Wal.

Minister Le Minh Hoan also expressed his gratitude to Dutch experts for their advice on building a strategic vision for the Mekong Delta, one of Vietnam's key rice granaries facing many challenges from climate change. The leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development hope that the cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands in the agricultural sector will become increasingly deeper and reach new heights in the coming time.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that Vietnam and the Netherlands have a good cooperative relationship, especially in the field of agriculture.

Minister of Natural Resources and Nitrogen Policy Christianne van der Wal said that the Netherlands looks forward to the opportunity to meet and work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to enhance mutual learning and understanding.

After 10 years of strategic partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security between the two countries, Minister Christianne van der Wal assessed that, although the two sides are different in geographical location, they share many common characteristics, such as being located in the same river basin, facing the problem of climate change and exporting many agricultural products to the world .

Ms. Christianne van der Wal expressed her joy at seeing positive results in food production in Vietnam, especially in the Mekong Delta region. People's awareness of sustainable production is increasing.

Minister of Natural Resources and Nitrogen Policy Christianne van der Wal hopes that bilateral cooperation will be more active in many areas, including helping the Mekong Delta maintain its status as a quality rice granary, building a logistics connection system...

Accordingly, the two countries can cooperate to help Vietnamese products meet higher standards and requirements from demanding markets such as the EU. The Netherlands is also ready to support Vietnam to achieve its strategic goals and become an important agricultural exporter in the region as well as in the world.

The Minister of Natural Resources and Nitrogen Policy hopes that the two sides will cooperate more actively in many areas, including helping the Mekong Delta maintain its status as a quality rice granary, building a logistics connection system... so that the Mekong Delta becomes a regional center while still ensuring issues of ecology, biodiversity, and environment.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Netherlands is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner (after Germany) in Europe and the EU's largest investor in Vietnam, with more than 400 projects and a total investment capital of over 11 billion USD, accounting for nearly 50% of the EU's total investment capital in Vietnam. Among them, there are many retail and agricultural chain projects of famous large corporations in the Netherlands such as Unilever, Heineken, De Heus, Dutch Lady Milk, Lenger Seafood, Nedspice, Da Lat Hasfarm, Rijk Zwaan...

The value of agricultural, forestry and fishery trade between Vietnam and the Netherlands in recent years has always remained high at around 1 billion USD, accounting for nearly 10% of the total value of import and export goods between the two countries. Compared to the EU, the value of agricultural products accounts for nearly 2% of the total volume of two-way goods.
