Authorities are urgently cleaning up waste from aquaculture activities that has drifted from nearby waters onto the rocky islands in Ha Long Bay.

On June 13th, information from the People's Committee of Ha Long City indicated that the locality had mobilized 500 people and 30 vehicles to clean up nearly 8 tons of waste, including sawdust, wooden stakes, and leaves, that had drifted ashore in Ha Long Bay.

Specifically, from June 8th to 9th, heavy and prolonged rainfall across a wide area of Ha Long City caused silt, leaves, and debris to wash ashore from the sea. In response, local authorities mobilized 500 people and 30 vehicles to clean up over 8 tons of waste, primarily consisting of styrofoam buoys, silt, wooden stakes, and leaves washed ashore in Ha Long Bay.

Silt, wooden stakes, and leaves have washed ashore on the beaches of Ha Long City.

The enormous amount of trash accumulating at beaches such as Bai Chay, Hon Gai, and Ha Long Marina has resulted in unsanitary conditions and a loss of aesthetic appeal for the tourist areas.

Meanwhile, manpower and equipment have been increased to clean up the rocky islands in Ha Long Bay.

Styrofoam floats drifting ashore in Ha Long Bay are unsightly and create environmental pollution.

Starting on the morning of June 12th, the Ha Long Bay Management Board, in coordination with several businesses, mobilized an additional 35 people and 6 vehicles to reinforce waste collection efforts. On the first day alone, approximately 70 of waste was collected in the Soi Van islet area (Vung Vieng). This collected waste will be transported ashore for processing according to regulations.

Approximately 500 people were mobilized to clean up the beach.

Due to the enormous amount of waste generated, the collection effort is expected to be largely completed between June 12th and 24th.

As Thanh Nien newspaper has reported, Ha Long Bay has recently been threatened by waste; primarily styrofoam buoys drifting from the sea onto rocky islands and many beaches in the area, causing environmental pollution. The Ha Long Bay Management Board stated that it will address the environmental incident in Ha Long Bay related to plastic waste, mainly styrofoam buoys, which are threatening the marine environment.
