The West Thang Long road project is an axis connecting urban areas in the west of Hanoi with a total length of more than 33 km starting from Vo Chi Cong street, Tay Ho district to Son Tay town.

The 5.5 km long section from Vo Chi Cong Street, Tay Ho to Minh Khai Commune, Bac Tu Liem is required to be constructed and completed early to connect the West Lake area with the Bac Tu Liem District Inter-agency Area, reducing the load on National Highway 32.

According to the original plan, the project was to start construction in 2017 and be completed in 2021, but it is not yet completed, 4 years behind schedule.

This 5.5 km long road has just been completed and put into use from Vo Chi Cong Street to the Ring Road 3 intersection. The section from Ring Road 3 to Minh Khai has been under construction for many years.

According to Tien Phong reporter , currently, this 3.2 km long road has only 2.8 km from the intersection with Van Tien Dung street (inter-agency area of ​​Bac Tu Liem district) to near Nhue river (Co Nhue commune) basically completed.

The remaining 400 meter section and the intersection with Ring Road 3 still have houses of hundreds of households living here.

To complete the project soon, the Hanoi People's Committee has just requested relevant units to speed up the project's progress, including site clearance (GPMB). For the section from Ring Road 3 to Minh Khai, the city People's Committee requested the Bac Tu Liem District People's Committee (investor) to complete the GPMB in the second quarter, and open the technical traffic in October.

To clear the remaining 400 households in Co Nhue 2 commune, have the remaining 400m of construction site as well as the intersection with Ring Road 3, the representative of Bac Tu Liem District People's Committee said it was very difficult, however, in the remaining 6 months, the district set a goal of completing this work.

The West Thang Long route project is a key project of Hanoi city, planned and approved for implementation for more than 10 years. The project is a radial route from East to West connecting the center of Hanoi to Son Tay urban area and urban areas in 5 districts including: Tay Ho, Bac Tu Liem, Dan Phuong, Phuc Tho.

Tay Thang Long Road consists of 5 construction sections, including: Section 1 is 2.1 km long from Vo Chi Cong Street to Pham Van Dong Street through Tay Ho Tay Urban Area (already put into use). Section 2 is 3.2 km long from Pham Van Dong - Ring Road 3 to Van Tien Dung Street (under construction and will be technically open to traffic in October 2025). Section 3 is about 3 km long from Van Tien Dung Street to Tay Tuu, Thuong Cat (under construction). Section 4 is 4.9 km long from Tay Tuu to Ring Road 4 (preparing for construction). Section 5 is 20 km long from Ring Road 4 to Son Tay town (preparing for construction).
