Hanoi City People's Committee has just issued regulations on management and exploitation of West Lake (Tay Ho district).
Many types of services are operated on the water surface of West Lake.
Hanoi City People's Committee allows the West Lake area to operate a golf course on the West Lake water surface, and services related to transporting tourists by water means (boats, canoes, jet skis, water bicycles, etc.) without overnight accommodation.
At the same time, it is allowed to organize cultural, sports , tourism and performing arts services at West Lake; organize traditional festivals, boat races; water music performances; hot air balloons; and paragliding.
Other activities are also allowed such as swimming, diving; boating, canoeing, water biking, windsurfing; electric tire cars, bicycles, tourist cyclos on the walking routes around West Lake...
Hanoi City requires relevant units to manage the environment of West Lake, including wastewater, water in the lake and water level, lake surface sanitation...
The regulation clearly states that Tay Ho district is the focal point for comprehensive management, coordinating with city departments and branches to perform management and exploitation tasks.
Tay Ho District said it will study carefully.
Regarding the above decision, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online at noon on February 29, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khuyen - Chairman of Tay Ho District People's Committee - said that this is the city's vision and will not be implemented immediately.
In response to the question that West Lake used to allow yachts to operate but was later banned due to environmental impacts, what will Tay Ho district do to avoid "making the same mistake", Mr. Khuyen said the district will study carefully, "not arbitrarily".
"Tay Ho District will study to develop a specific project on how to implement, environmental standards, and how to operate appropriately, it cannot be arbitrary. It will take at least 2 more years for these types of businesses to be able to operate in West Lake," Mr. Khuyen added.
In previous years, West Lake had some services such as floating houses, yachts, and pedal boats. By 2017, Hanoi will stop providing services, culture, sports, tourism, entertainment, and aquaculture of enterprises within the management scope of West Lake.
