Hanoi starts construction of Thuong Cat Bridge

On October 8, 2025, the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board coordinated with the Trung Nam E&C - Bac Trung Nam Joint Venture and related units to organize the groundbreaking ceremony of the Thuong Cat Bridge Project and the roads at both ends of the bridge. This is a key city-level project, celebrating the anniversary of the capital's liberation (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025).

The Thuong Cat Bridge and the roads at both ends of the bridge project are part of the capital's transport infrastructure development plan, contributing to connecting the center of Hanoi with Dong Anh and Bac Tu Liem districts, while creating a traffic axis linking Beltway 3.5 with National Highway 32 and Nhat Tan Bridge, gradually forming a synchronous and modern transport network in the area north of the Red River.

Thuong Cat Bridge Project, invested by Hanoi City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. The project has a total length of 5,226 m with 1,300 m long approach roads at both ends, the bridge length is 3,904 m; in which the main bridge is 780 m long including 04 spans with dimensions of 120 m + 270 m + 270 m + 120 m and the approach bridge is 3.125 km long.

3. Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan gave the order to start construction.

The main bridge is designed with a width of 35m, while the approach bridge is 31m wide, with a scale of 08 lanes including 06 motor lanes and 02 rudimentary lanes, meeting the design speed of 80km/h. The project ensures the clearance for 600DWT vessels - 4×400 DWT tug barges, with a width of 50m and clearance of 9.5m. The total investment of the project is more than 7,303 billion VND, of which the construction package (Package 27/XL) is worth 5,930 billion VND, construction time is about 26 months, expected to be completed in December 2027.

The Thuong Cat Bridge project is an important piece in the strategy for urban and infrastructure development in Hanoi until 2030, with a vision to 2045. When completed, the bridge will reduce traffic pressure in the inner city area, shorten travel time from the center to the North of the Red River; activate the new urban chain of Dong Anh - Bac Tu Liem, create a development axis parallel to Nhat Tan Bridge; promote logistics and regional connectivity, creating a driving force for socio -economic development for the capital and the key economic region of the North.
