Can Giuoc commune residents exchange plastic waste for gifts
Waste classification at source
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) Nguyen Tan Thuan, the province has resolutely directed and implemented many solutions to reduce plastic waste. Specifically, the province encourages the implementation of many development models, changes in consumption habits as well as production methods, waste management, etc., shifting to a circular economic model, green growth, and reducing dependence on single-use plastic products.
In particular, the province has implemented waste classification at source - this is considered a practical and effective solution in preventing and combating solid waste in particular, and collecting and treating solid waste in general. This classification is not only environmentally significant but also helps increase recycled materials, bringing many economic benefits, helping to form a circular economy.
The province has coordinated with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Vietnam to develop a project on domestic solid waste management for the province and carry out pilot activities since 2018. The project has been piloted in a number of urban and rural areas in the province, in which domestic solid waste is divided into 3 types: easily decomposable organic waste; waste that can be reused and recycled; and remaining waste.
With many synchronous and drastic solutions in propaganda and mobilization work, localities have effectively implemented the classification of solid waste at source. Mr. Nguyen Van De (residing in Vinh Hung commune) said: "People are trained in waste classification and have specialized staff to guide and support enthusiastically. Up to now, people here have formed the habit of classifying waste at source. Everyone hopes that their small actions will contribute to the community to protect the environment to become increasingly clean, and life to become better and better."
In addition, other localities in the province have organized many good, meaningful and practical models to limit the use of disposable plastic products such as: Exchange plastic for gifts, Recycle plastic, Green house, Carry a basket to the market,... These activities gradually penetrate into people's lives and form community awareness in preventing and combating plastic waste, forming a green and healthy lifestyle.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong (living in Can Giuoc commune) excitedly said: “I and some women in the hamlet together carry out garbage classification. Plastic bottles are used by everyone, exchanged for gifts to support people in difficult circumstances. We are very happy to have worked together to build an increasingly clean and friendly living environment; plastic waste is recycled, avoiding impacts on the environment”.
Raise awareness, change habits
Many models and good practices contribute to preventing and combating plastic waste.
Responding to the prevention and control of plastic waste, in recent times, departments, branches, mass organizations, localities and enterprises in the province have promoted information and propaganda work in many forms such as: on the radio system from the province to the grassroots; through meetings; on social networking sites; through banners, slogans;... thereby, contributing to raising people's awareness to change habits together, limit the use of disposable plastic products. At the same time, the province continues to maintain and replicate many effective models in the fight against plastic waste, spreading a green lifestyle, contributing to environmental protection;...
Mr. Nguyen Tan Thuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment emphasized: "With many practical actions and activities, localities have conveyed a strong message about environmental protection, promoted public awareness in the rational use of natural resources; promoted prevention and control of plastic waste, mobilized and called on the community to change their behavior and habits of using disposable plastic products, contributing to reducing environmental pollution, protecting human health and the ecosystem; contributed to concretizing awareness into specific actions to limit the use of plastic and nylon products, replacing them with environmentally friendly products, towards a greener and cleaner lifestyle".
In the coming time, the province will continue to promote the implementation of measures and solutions to improve the effectiveness of waste prevention and control, aiming to use green, environmentally friendly products to minimize emissions and human impacts on the ecosystem. In particular, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will advise on the effective implementation of the Law on Environmental Protection to organizations and individuals in the area; strengthen state management of the environment, especially in monitoring and handling plastic waste; focus on solutions to promote waste classification at source, build models for collecting and recycling waste.
In addition, the Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to closely coordinate with units to implement movements and campaigns for the whole people to protect the environment, effective models for preventing and combating plastic waste;... contributing to raising people's awareness; promoting the process of innovation in production technology, sustainable consumption, encouraging businesses to use recycled materials and biological materials to replace virgin plastic./.
