Recently, the online platform specializing in data collection and visualization, Statista (Germany), conducted a survey on the proportion of people using means of transport for daily travel in 2023.
According to a survey by Statista, South Korea ranks first in the percentage of people using public transportation to go to work and school. In 2023, 41% of South Koreans surveyed used public transportation for their daily commute.
With the introduction of the Climate Card, more and more people are using public transport, especially the subway, with accurate travel times.
Introduced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government earlier this year, the Climate Card allows residents to freely use the subway, buses and public bicycles (Ddareungi) in Seoul for 1 month at a cost of 65,000 won (US$49).
Since its launch on January 27, more than 460,000 Climate Cards have been sold. As public transport usage increases thanks to the Climate Card, people benefit from reduced travel costs while also helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
After South Korea, Poland ranks second in terms of public transport usage (39%). In Warsaw, Poland, for example, trams, buses and subways efficiently connect the city. They are followed by Austria (34%), Mexico (33%) and Spain (32%). According to analysts, countries with a high proportion of public transport tend to have lower rates of private car use.
