According to data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in the first 6 months of 2025, air transport recorded an improvement with passenger volume increasing by 9.1% over the same period last year, estimated at 59.7 million passengers.
"The number of international visitors reached 22.9 million, up 12.9%, domestic visitors reached 36.8 million, up 6.9%. Domestic aviation infrastructure has also been strongly invested in, upgraded and expanded.
On that basis, the domestic aviation industry is expected to continue to maintain its recovery momentum and stable growth in the second half of 2025 and the coming years," Aviation Authority commented.
In that context, domestic airlines are making efforts to consolidate resources and improve operational capacity to expand operations.
" Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are actively expanding international routes, opening new routes to Europe, Asia... Vietravel Airlines receives its first owned aircraft in addition to leased aircraft to consolidate its fleet size and increase its operating capacity.
Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways maintains stable operations, focusing on domestic routes with high demand to serve passengers during the peak summer season," The Civil Aviation Authority said.
Commenting on the overall picture of the current Vietnamese aviation passenger transport market, Mr. Luong Hoai Nam, General Director of Bamboo Airways, commented that the Vietnamese aviation market, both domestic and international, is currently very good.
“Overall, the domestic market is a beautiful picture. In the first half of this year, more foreign visitors came to Vietnam than in the whole of 2016. This year, we hope to reach 22-23 million tourists coming to Vietnam, of which 70-80% of passengers traveling by plane are for tourism, this is a bright spot for the tourism and aviation industry.
However, like the case of Van Don airport or Phu Quoc, despite the participation of private enterprises such asSun Group in management, the airport infrastructure still does not fully meet the needs. Therefore, in the future, more investors need to participate to create a modern, synchronous and truly effective airport system. Mr. Nam expressed his opinion.
Airfares up or down?
Many tourists say that during this year's summer peak, airfare prices continue to be "hot", especially for flights to tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Da Nang,...
However, a survey by VTC News on the morning of July 12 showed that for a one-way flight from Hanoi to Nha Trang on July 13 (close to the time of the survey), the economy class ticket price of Bamboo Airways was only VND 3,733 million, VietJet Air was VND 3,171 million, and Vietnam Airlines was VND 3,420 million. This price includes taxes and fees.
On the same flight day, July 13, the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route of Vietnam Airlines is 4,563 million VND, of VietJet Air is 3,524 million VND and of Vietnam Airlines operated by the Pacific joint venture is 4,420 million VND.
As for the Hanoi - Da Lat route on July 13, VietJet Air's price is only 2,610 million VND, and Vietnam Airlines' is 3,889 million VND...
If customers buy tickets and fly after a week, the price will be reduced from 300 thousand to 1 million VND/trip depending on the flight time.
“This is a price 300,000 – 700,000 VND/ticket/route lower than the same period in 2024. With this price, customers can still get further discounts because airlines are implementing promotional and discount programs, and this can be maintained until the beginning of the peak ticket sales season for Tet 2026,” Vietjet Air representative said.
To continue to meet the increasing travel needs of passengers, airlines continue to offer many attractive promotions and sell surprisingly cheap air tickets. For example, domestic airfares of Vietnam Airlines start from only VND 1,099,000/way (including taxes and fees), applicable for flights from April 5 to December 28, 2025.
Vietjet Air is launching a program of 1 million tickets from only 0 VND (excluding taxes and fees), applicable to domestic and international flights until September 30, 2025.
Bamboo Airways also offers a discount of 8% on basic fares for domestic flights and 10% on international flights, applicable from 22:00 to 02:00 on weekends.
Mr. Luong Hoai Nam - General Director of Bamboo Airways commented: "Airfares in Vietnam have never been so high, it can be said that they are not high enough considering the operating costs and market pressure that airlines are facing. Even at the present time, domestic airfares are decreasing because airlines are continuously implementing discount programs to stimulate people's travel demand."
According to the National Aviation Administration, during the peak summer period of 2025, Vietnamese airlines are expected to operate 68,558 domestic flights (an average of 745 flights/day), providing approximately 14 million seats, an increase of 21% and 18% respectively compared to the flight schedule before the increase in flights and the summer of 2024.
Flights to/from tourist destinations (Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Quy Nhon) are operated by Vietnamese airlines with more than 20,000 flights, providing nearly 4.1 million seats, an increase of 30% and 21% respectively compared to the flight schedule before increasing flights and summer 2024.
For the main routes (Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City), airlines plan to operate 26,800 flights, providing nearly 5.9 million seats, an increase of 22% and 14% respectively compared to the flight schedule before increasing flights and the summer of 2024.
During the peak summer period of 2025 (from May 15 to August 15), Vietnam Airlines will operate more than 43,000 domestic and international flights, providing nearly 9 million air tickets, an increase of nearly 14% over the same period in 2024.
Vietjet Air plans to provide more than 400,000 additional seats, equivalent to 1,600 flights during the peak summer season from June 1 to July 15, on routes to and from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang...
