On April 24th, Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk announced that the electric car company has officially begun production of its promising Cybercab robotaxi.
The announcement came shortly after Tesla released first-quarter earnings results that far exceeded analysts' expectations.
On social media platform X, billionaire Musk shared a 38-second promotional video with the brief caption: "Cybercab has begun production."
The video, mostly filmed from inside a driverless Cybercab, shows the vehicle leaving the factory assembly line and beginning to move on the streets.
Additionally, he also posted another short clip showing a convoy of bronze-colored Cybercabs moving in formation on the road.
Previously, in its financial report released on April 22nd, Tesla confirmed it is on track to begin mass production of both the Cybercab and the Tesla Semi electric truck this year. The company just recorded a profit of $477 million in the first quarter of the year, despite fluctuations in the global electric vehicle market.
Cybercab is presented as a fully autonomous robotaxi, designed without a steering wheel or pedals. This model first debuted to the public in the fall of 2024. At that time, CEO Elon Musk predicted that the vehicle would officially be commercialized in 2027.
However, Tesla accelerated its progress by beginning to offer robotaxi services to users in its limited "early access" program through an invitation-based system in Austin, Texas, starting last June.
Last February, the electric vehicle manufacturer also revealed images of employees gathered around the first Cybercab to roll off the assembly line at its Giga Texas plant, marking a significant milestone in Tesla's efforts to realize the era of autonomous vehicles.
