On the morning of March 24, news from Phu Quoc City Medical Center ( Kien Giang ) said that the pregnant woman HTM (39 years old, temporarily residing in Cua Duong commune, Phu Quoc city) is still being cared for and treated at the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition, continuing to receive blood transfusions and being transferred to a higher level.
The mother was admitted to the hospital at around 6:20 p.m. on March 23 in a state of confusion due to hemorrhage, diagnosed with hemorrhagic shock due to placenta previa bleeding at 21 weeks of pregnancy. Doctors performed emergency blood transfusion in the hope of saving the mother. However, due to excessive blood loss leading to a blood clotting disorder, all the blood transfused was lost and rare blood was difficult to find a match for.
Hundreds of people waited until after 1am on March 24 to get blood samples to save a pregnant woman.
On the night of March 23, an urgent notice was posted on many doctors' personal pages, then spread to many Facebook pages in Phu Quoc, stating that Phu Quoc City Medical Center was treating a pregnant woman in need of an urgent blood transfusion.
According to this urgent notice, the blood type that needs to be transfused to the pregnant woman is O+ blood. Because many people have come to test, even though they have O+ blood type, most of them are incompatible, so a public announcement was made to ask people to come test blood to save the said pregnant woman.
After the information was posted on social media, hundreds of people in Phu Quoc, even though they did not know each other, came to Phu Quoc City Medical Center hoping to donate blood to save the pregnant woman.
From 11pm on March 23 to 1am on March 24, at the testing area of Phu Quoc City Medical Center, hundreds of people waited their turn to get their blood tested. After taking samples, they had to wait for the results. During the waiting time, everyone hoped their blood would be a match, so they could save the pregnant woman waiting in the operating room.
Ms. Trang (residing in KP2, Duong Dong Ward, Phu Quoc City) said that after taking the sample, the medical staff told her that if her house was nearby, she should go home and rest. If the blood test showed that it was suitable, the medical staff would call her to take the sample. "However, I still sat there, afraid that if I went home and fell asleep, I wouldn't be able to answer the phone ringing," Ms. Trang said.
Everyone waited until after 1am. After testing more than 100 blood samples, the medical staff came out and announced that there was enough blood needed to save the mother, so everyone could go home. At this point, everyone went home and did not forget to tell the doctors to call if they still needed blood.
