VTV Binh Dien Long An is the third Vietnamese women's volleyball club to reach the final of the Asian Women's Club Championship (AVC). This also marks the third consecutive time a Vietnamese team has achieved this feat. In 2023, Sport Center 1 won the championship. This time, VTV Binh Dien Long An was tasked with bringing victory to Vietnam, just as Sport Center 1 had done. However, the girls from the S-shaped country were unable to repeat their predecessors' feat, despite an incredible journey from the group stage to the final.
After advancing from the group stage, VTV Binh Dien Long An faced Kaohsiung Taipower (Taiwan, China), a team with a perfect record in the group stage and highly regarded for their disciplined play and well-rounded players. However, VTV Binh Dien Long An demonstrated great skill and determination, and the Vietnamese girls continued their excellent performance against Kaohsiung Taipower in the quarterfinals, winning 3-1 and securing their place in the semifinals of this prestigious tournament.
In a breathtaking semi-final match, Long An avenged their group stage defeat to Beijing in the most impressive way possible, winning 3-0. Against their formidable Chinese opponents, the Long An girls showcased a powerful and sophisticated total volleyball style, creating a one-sided game that stunned their opponents from the very first points. With the strong and resilient outside hitter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, along with Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Lu Thi Phuong, and Vo Thi Kim Thoa shining at crucial moments, Long An advanced to the final and secured their first-ever appearance at the FIVB Club World Championship.
However, VTV Binh Dien Long An's opponent in the final is Zhetysu. The team from Kazakhstan is truly too strong compared to the rest. In the semi-finals, Zhetysu easily defeated Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand) in just three sets, with a playing style focused on strength and superior height, thus securing their place in the final.
Before the final match, both teams were on a journey to seek their first major title on the international stage. While VTV Binh Dien Long An had a young, cohesive squad with a long-standing fighting spirit, Zhetysu relied primarily on a lineup of experienced foreign players who were still powerful and tall enough to overwhelm their opponents on their way to the final.
In the final match, despite their best efforts, VTV Binh Dien Long An could not pull off an upset against the formidable Zhetysu, ultimately suffering a 1-3 defeat. While the loss is regrettable, the efforts of Thanh Thuy and her teammates, VTV Binh Dien Long An, in overcoming a series of superior opponents to secure the runner-up position, are commendable. Furthermore, the Vietnamese representatives gained valuable lessons and their participation in the FIVB Club World Championship is a remarkable achievement. Although their dream of winning the championship remains unfulfilled, the journey of the Vietnamese girls in this year's tournament is truly admirable and something to be proud of.
