City International Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has just discharged a patient with a traumatic brain injury from the Kingdom of Cambodia. The 14-year-old girl, Toun Sreynich, was in a serious traffic accident a month ago. After 10 years of treatment in her home country, she had to be put on a ventilator, fed through a nasogastric tube, given a blood transfusion and received intensive care.
When everything seemed to be at a standstill, the family put their faith in Vietnamese medicine and took her to City International Hospital to seek a slim chance of recovery.
Upon receiving the patient, the team of doctors at the Pediatrics Department determined that this was an extremely serious case, on the verge of vegetative life. The child had almost completely lost the ability to communicate and move and was completely dependent on medical care.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Cam, Department of Pediatrics, City International Hospital said: "We not only treat organ damage but also have to activate each vital ability of the child such as active breathing, swallowing reflex, alertness, emotion, and perception."
Doctors have proposed a comprehensive treatment regimen including: intravenous nutrition with a personalized nutritional regimen, treatment of pressure ulcers, infection control combined with daily physical therapy to maintain respiratory function and restart central nervous system activity.
Ten days after being admitted to the hospital, Sreynich gradually recovered, his eyes moved, his hands moved slightly, he could eat a few spoonfuls of milk, and he could breathe naturally… the improvement in his general condition had clearly changed. After being discharged from the hospital, the patient continued his recovery journey with physical therapy, exercise and communication.
Sreynich's recovery is not only a medical achievement but also a victory of love, perseverance and limitless devotion of medical practitioners, thereby contributing to enriching moral values in modern society.
