Mr. Arat Trung - Vice Chairman of Song Kon Commune People's Committee said that after nearly 10 years of absence, the return of the 4th Co Tu Traditional Cultural Festival is considered an opportunity for the locality to launch unique tourism products, contributing to preserving and promoting the typical cultural values of the community to visitors.

At dusk, dozens of young men and women of the Co Tu ethnic group in Bhlo Ben village (Song Kon commune) gathered in front of the village cultural house to practice traditional tan tung and da da dances.

Drums and gongs are prepared in advance, and practice sessions are attended by artisans in the village, creating a meaningful and vibrant community living space.

Mr. Alang Phan - Head of Bhlo Ben village said that this season, local people are at the peak of weeding fields and harvesting acacia gardens. Although quite busy with their livelihoods, since the plan to organize the commune's cultural festival, many people have taken the opportunity to finish their work early to practice with the villagers and prepare for the upcoming festival.

According to the plan, the 4th Co Tu Traditional Cultural Festival of Song Kon Commune - 2024 is expected to be held from July 17 - 19, at Bho Hoong cultural - tourist village, with many meaningful activities bearing traditional colors such as performing tang tung and da da dances; contest of speaking and singing ly; performance of gong and drum art and the ceremony of carrying Uncle Ho's photo at the opening program...

“This year, Bhlo Ben village combined the training activities with the traditional communal house kitchen event. From the resources of the people, we agreed to buy a cow to offer to the gods.

This is a long-standing custom of the Co Tu community to report to Giang about the gong and drum festival, creating favorable and safe conditions for practicing tan tung and da da" - Mr. Alang Phan shared.

The drums and gongs sounded, in front of the communal yard, dance movements recreating the harvest scene combined with the moments of exchanging love, eating new rice... were supported and instructed by Co Tu artisans to the young people.

Mr. Phan said that this year, many students are on summer vacation so they can join the training, contributing to bringing community culture to tourists from near and far.

Chosen as the venue for the festival, over the past few days, people in Bho Hoong village have been working hard to clean up the environment and repair many traditional mirrors and moong to serve the festival.

In addition to participating in the practice, many community groups were mobilized to clean the worship house, prepare materials to restore the pole, performance stage, etc.

Honoring community heritage

After a period of interruption due to the pandemic, the 4th Co Tu Traditional Cultural Festival of Song Kon commune promises to fully recreate cultural rituals imbued with the traditional colors of the Co Tu, with the highlight being the space for collective dance and da da performances, gathering hundreds of local artisans and actors to participate.

These unique rituals are considered the opening activities for the largest traditional festival event ever held at the commune level in mountainous districts.

Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoi - Chairman of Song Kon Commune People's Committee said that the cultural festival is an important event for local people, held periodically every 5 years.

Thereby contributing to encouraging and raising people's sense of responsibility in preserving, promoting and popularizing the traditional cultural identity of their nation, promoting the spirit of community solidarity, promoting compassion...

“In addition, the festival is also an opportunity to honor the traditional cultural identity of the Co Tu people, aiming to form unique cultural tourism products to serve the needs of experience and discovery of visitors when they set foot in the village.

Through the re-enactment of unique traditional cultural spaces such as buffalo eating festival, tang tung dance, da da combined with brocade costume performance, traditional cuisine , ly speaking - ly singing between villages in the commune..., the festival is expected to bring interesting experiences, an interesting stop for tourists this summer" - Ms. Ngoi shared.

New compared to previous festivals, this year's festival will integrate the implementation of summarizing activities to build cultural life associated with the work of preserving traditional values. In addition, the festival will also display and exhibit rattan and bamboo weaving products, brocade weaving, and sell agricultural products... to serve the people and tourists to visit and shop.
