Both Gardiner and Mylod worked on HBO's hit series Succession , about a dysfunctional family running a media empire. The show won 19 Emmy Awards. Gardiner joined the production team and Mylod served as director and producer.

HBO describes the Harry Potter series (which currently has no official title) as "a faithful adaptation of the Harry Potter books by author and producer J.K. Rowling".
British author JKRowling expressed on social network X on June 26: "I am really excited to announce the director and screenwriter of the series. Both were interviewed by me as members of the production team. Gardiner and Mylod both have a real passion for Harry Potter . After reading Francesca Gardiner's pilot script as well as hearing Mark Mylod present the idea, I am sure that the Harry Potter TV series will meet more than expectations."
The seven Harry Potter books have sold more than 600 million copies worldwide , and were adapted into films starring Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, grossing $7.7 billion globally from 2001 to 2011.
