At the meeting, delegates of the 10th Tra Vinh Provincial People's Council reviewed and commented on the content of the Provincial People's Committee's Proposal on the issuance of a Resolution approving the policy of rearranging administrative units of Ben Tre province, Vinh Long province and Tra Vinh province.
According to the content of the proposal, Vinh Long province was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of Ben Tre province, Vinh Long province and Tra Vinh province under the name Vinh Long province. The political and administrative center of the new province was located in the current Vinh Long province.
Thus, Vinh Long province (new) has a natural area of 6,296.2 km2 (reaching 125.92% of the standard), population size of over 4,194,633 people (reaching 299.62%).
At the meeting, delegates of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Council unanimously voted to pass the Resolution on approving the policy of rearranging administrative units of Ben Tre province, Vinh Long province and Tra Vinh province.
At the same time, delegates of the People's Council of Tra Vinh province reviewed and commented on the content of Submission No. 2053/TTr-UBND, dated April 16, 2025 of the Provincial People's Committee on the issuance of a Resolution approving the policy of rearranging commune-level administrative units of Tra Vinh province in 2025.
According to the report, Tra Vinh province currently has 104 commune-level administrative units (9 wards, 10 towns and 85 communes). After the reorganization, Tra Vinh province has 41 commune-level administrative units (6 wards, 35 communes), a reduction of 63 commune-level administrative units, reaching a rate of 60.58%.
Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Council Kim Ngoc Thai requested the Provincial People's Committee to focus on directing provincial and local departments, branches and localities to urgently organize the implementation of the resolutions just passed by the Provincial People's Council.
In particular, urgently and seriously, synchronously and effectively implement the organization and merger of administrative units to ensure compliance with regulations.
Heads of newly merged and established units shall closely direct the preservation of relevant records, documents, and assets, arrange headquarters and workplaces, and arrange internal human resources appropriately to ensure effective and efficient operations. Pay attention to and ensure proper implementation of policies for comrades who resign according to their wishes and retire before the prescribed age.
Regarding the socio-economic development situation, comrade Kim Ngoc Thai requested the Provincial People's Committee to focus on leading, managing and implementing socio-economic development targets, and proposing breakthrough solutions to achieve the GRDP growth target of 8% or more in 2025.
Party committees and authorities at all levels should strengthen direction for media agencies and socio-political organizations to promptly disseminate information, disseminate People's Council resolutions and session results to all voters and people, monitor and participate in supervision.
At the meeting, in addition to unanimously voting to pass the Resolution on approving the policy of rearranging administrative units of Ben Tre province, Vinh Long province and Tra Vinh province and the Resolution on approving the policy of rearranging commune-level administrative units of Tra Vinh province in 2025, the Provincial People's Council delegates also unanimously voted to pass the following resolutions: Resolution on supplementing the budget estimate, supplementing with objectives and adjusting the provincial budget estimate in 2025 (phase 2); Resolution on assigning and adjusting the medium-term public investment plan of the provincial budget for the period 2021-2025 (phase 9); Resolution on assigning and adjusting the public investment plan of the provincial budget in 2025 (phase 2)...
