Through various effective and innovative approaches, the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune, Trieu Phong district, has implemented the "Godmother" program and donated health insurance cards to poor women in the locality, achieving many practical results. This has helped orphaned children overcome feelings of inferiority and self-doubt, giving them better opportunities for education; and enabled women in difficult circumstances to obtain health insurance cards, proactively taking care of their own and their families' health, overcoming difficulties, and stabilizing their lives.

Two siblings, Doan Hoang Tra My, a 4th-grade student, and Doan Viet Son, a 3rd-grade student at Trieu Long Primary and Secondary School, are orphans who have lost both parents and are currently living with their grandmother, who is over 80 years old and unable to work. Given their difficult circumstances, the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune has actively appealed for and mobilized support from many kind-hearted individuals and socio-political organizations in the locality. They have received encouragement and assistance to cover their educational expenses and help them make ends meet. In particular, the two children have been sponsored with 2.4 million VND per year per child.

Timely support and assistance, both material and spiritual, have motivated My and Son to strive for a better life. Tra My shared: “My sister and I are grateful to the benefactors who have helped us over the past time. We promise to work hard and study well so that we can become useful members of society in the future.” Another example is the family of Ms. Vo Thi Bich, a disadvantaged household in the commune. With limited land for farming, Ms. Bich herself is often ill, and the family faces extreme economic hardship raising two children and supporting their education, leaving them struggling to make ends meet.

Due to poor health and frequent medical check-ups, Ms. Bich lacked health insurance, resulting in significant expenses for medication. Recognizing her difficult circumstances, the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune mobilized support and provided her with a health insurance card worth 1.2 million VND, enabling her to access medical care. "Now, every time I go for a check-up at a medical facility, I feel more at ease knowing I have health insurance. This is a valuable gift for me. I am very grateful to the Trieu Long Women's Union and all the benefactors," Ms. Bich said emotionally.

The Women's Union of Trieu Long commune is a model unit in Trieu Phong district in implementing the "Godmother Program" launched by the Vietnam Women's Union. To ensure the program's sustainable effectiveness and strong impact, in conjunction with the Government's Project 938 on "Propaganda, education, and support for women's participation in resolving social issues," the Trieu Long commune Women's Union annually directs its branches to review and compile lists of orphaned children and their needs for assistance.

Actively coordinate with relevant agencies to verify information on orphaned children, send the list to the commune for compilation, and based on the verified list, proactively connect with charitable organizations and individuals to solicit sponsorship for the children; develop plans and organize the implementation of support appropriate to the local conditions.

Over the three years from 2022 to 2024, the association connected with and solicited support for the "Godmother" Program, providing over 50 million VND to 21 orphaned children. This included 2 children who lost both parents and 19 children who lost either their mother or father, each receiving 2.4 million VND per year. Additionally, 40 health insurance cards were provided to 40 disadvantaged women, each card valued at 900,000 VND to 1.2 million VND. Besides providing living expenses, the association assigns staff and members (godmothers) to visit, encourage, and provide monthly support, essential supplies, and school supplies to the children.

In addition to providing material support, the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune also pays special attention to the spiritual well-being of orphaned and disadvantaged children in the locality. They regularly coordinate with relevant agencies and local authorities to organize cultural and artistic activities, life skills classes, folk games, and visit and give gifts to encourage the children on occasions such as International Children's Day (June 1st), summer holidays, Mid-Autumn Festival, Vietnamese Family Day (June 28th), and the start of the new school year. Through these activities, they create a healthy and safe environment for the children to play and have fun, preventing social evils.

The "Godmother" program for orphans, providing health insurance cards to women in difficult family circumstances, implemented by the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune, demonstrates the spirit of mutual support and compassion, encouraging orphans to have a foundation in their studies and development, becoming useful citizens for society; contributing to alleviating the financial burden on member families and women when they are sick or ill.

"With the motto of ensuring no orphan or poor woman is left behind, in the coming time, the association will continue to call on individuals, organizations, and businesses to carry out more appropriate activities that closely match the needs of orphans and support poor women in stabilizing their lives."

"This contributes to spreading the program more widely and deeply, attracting the participation of the whole society in supporting and encouraging orphans and women in difficult circumstances, both materially and spiritually," said Ngo Gia Linh, President of the Women's Union of Trieu Long commune.
