Open and approachable.
One morning in late May, the Phuoc Thai village cultural center was packed with people attending a direct dialogue between the commune leaders and the villagers. As one of the remote villages in Cat Tien 2 commune, home to a large ethnic minority population, Phuoc Thai was chosen by the commune as the location for one of the first activities of the "Saturday with the People" model.
The dialogue took place in an open and friendly atmosphere. Mr. Le Van Ha, head of Phuoc Thai village, said that the people were very pleased that the commune leaders came directly to the village to listen to their thoughts and aspirations. People boldly raised concerns about agricultural production, rural transportation, administrative procedures, and public works projects, and these issues were addressed immediately during the meeting.
Every opinion and suggestion was noted by the commune leaders and relevant departments. Issues within their authority were addressed directly. Those requiring more time were compiled by commune officials for consideration and processing in the future.
In addition, following the dialogue at the village cultural center, the working group also went directly to the site to investigate the issues raised by the people. Roads needing repair and areas with shortcomings in daily life and production were inspected in person to find appropriate solutions.

Listen to the people - understand what the people need.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Lich, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Tien 2 commune, said that the combination of "listening to the people" and "understanding the people's needs" helps ensure that suggestions are not limited to meetings but are considered in line with real-life situations. This is also a distinguishing feature of the dialogue model that Cat Tien 2 commune is implementing.
The entire Cat Tien 2 commune currently has 18 villages with nearly 15,000 inhabitants, of which ethnic minorities account for more than 35.7%. The area is large, the population is unevenly distributed, and life mainly depends on agricultural production, so promptly understanding the thoughts and aspirations of the people is very important. According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Lich, immediately after becoming operational, the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune identified improving the people's lives as a top priority. Along with implementing socio -economic development programs, the locality focuses on building a government that is close to the people through direct dialogue activities at the grassroots level.
"To effectively achieve socio-economic development goals, we must first understand what the people need and where they are facing difficulties. Direct dialogue with the people is a crucial channel for the government to grasp the reality, thereby developing solutions and policies that are more relevant to people's lives," Mr. Nguyen Hoang Lich shared.
For remote areas like Phuoc Thai, where a large number of ethnic minorities live, bringing dialogue sessions directly to the villages is even more practical and meaningful. Not only does it facilitate people's participation, but it also provides an opportunity for the government to disseminate the Party and State's policies and guidelines, and to promptly address emerging issues at the grassroots level. More importantly, people perceive the government's proactive and responsible approach in listening to and resolving issues related to their daily lives.
According to the leaders of Cat Tien 2 commune People's Committee, in the coming time, the "Saturday for the People" model will continue to be maintained in all villages in the area. Through these direct meetings, the locality hopes to build a government that is closer to the people, listens to the people, and serves the people better.
