Dung Tien Agricultural Cooperative was established in 2016, with 8 members participating, with a production scale of 2 hectares. In the early days, the cooperative members mainly cultivated seasonal vegetables, using traditional production methods, so the cultivation value only reached 160 million/ha/year. To increase the cultivation value per unit area, the cooperative has changed its thinking, boldly innovated and applied science and technology.
Mr. Kim Van Dung, Director of Dung Tien Agricultural Cooperative, said: Thanks to proactively learning about techniques, mobilizing resources and receiving support from projects, the cooperative develops production linked to the value chain associated with the consumption of safe organic vegetable products; Cooperative members are trained in planting techniques, care, and pest control for cabbage, mustard greens, and tomatoes to ensure safety standards; skills in harvesting, preserving, and packaging products. In 2020, with an area of 10 hectares of off-season vegetables, the cooperative harvested nearly 600 tons of vegetables, with an average income of 300 million VND/ha/year.
With initial results, Tien Dung Agricultural Cooperative has linked vegetable and fruit growing households in the area together, sharing experiences, and applying techniques and technologies in safe vegetable production and fruit tree care. Instead of hard manual labor, the Cooperative has installed misting and drip irrigation systems using Israeli technology. Automating watering and pesticide spraying helps save up to 70% of water and 50% of labor costs; ensuring water and nutrient supply to help plants grow optimally.
Currently, the Cooperative has invested in building 5 hectares of greenhouses and net houses, helping plants avoid negative impacts of weather such as hail, frost, harsh sunlight and prevent the invasion of insects and pests, especially being able to produce off-season vegetables, improving productivity and product quality in a stable manner.
The cooperative has expanded its production scale, with 18 members cultivating more than 20 hectares of vegetables, tubers and fruits; of which 10 hectares meet VietGAP standards, 5 hectares of vegetables and fruits are grown in greenhouses and net houses, and are currently switching to organic farming. Agricultural products are guaranteed in quality from the input, and are fertilized according to the correct process and techniques. Output products are managed by barcodes for traceability, product information such as planting location and harvest time is fully updated; vegetables and tubers are stored in cold storage before being transported to ensure freshness and the best quality when they reach consumers.
Mr. Ban Van Dong, a cooperative member, excitedly said: Having been trained in a systematic and scientific farming process, my family has focused on producing off-season vegetables from May this year to January next year. 5,000 m2 of off-season vegetable cultivation yields 3-4 times more than mass cultivation in the main season, earning more than 200 million VND.
The relentless efforts in applying high technology have brought Dung Tien Cooperative remarkable achievements in productivity and quality of agricultural products; the cultivation value has increased from 160 million VND to over 500 million VND/ha/year. Products are supplied to supermarkets and clean food stores in Hanoi and many other provinces. The linkage in the value chain, from production to consumption, has created a stable output, helping cooperative members have increasingly higher incomes.
