The effect of an international volleyball tournament

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team completed their first international mission in 2025 by winning the AVC Nations Cup last weekend. This success has had many positive effects, not only in terms of expertise, but also contributed to enhancing the team's position and brand value.

Position is increasingly affirmed

Keeping the set target of winning the 2025 AVC Nations Cup, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team continues to show its superiority over its opponents in the rising group in Asia. This is the third consecutive time the women's team has won the championship in this tournament system. Previously, the tournament was called the AVC Challenge Cup, but this year, the tournament was upgraded to the AVC Nations Cup.

General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation Le Tri Truong commented that retaining the championship title for three consecutive times is very remarkable. This is an official tournament in the competition system of the World Volleyball Federation and winning the number 1 position helps the team receive many positive values.

In fact, the quality of the teams participating in the AVC Nations Cup 2025 is not among the top teams in the continent. Compared to the teams participating in the tournament, the level of the Vietnamese team is still one level higher. That is clearly shown in the fact that Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's students only lost 1 set throughout the entire tournament. But even losing that 1 set (in the semi-final match against Kazakhstan) also shows the team's professional problems, especially in the first step - which is considered to be the existence of many generations of athletes in the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. Therefore, the team's professional gain is not only the championship or the promotion to 25th place in the world after this tournament but also other professional problems.

Even the key players of the team have had the feeling of competing internationally and are confident enough to embark on new journeys. In particular, the story of player Tran Thi Thanh Thuy continues to attract attention. Achieving good form at the AVC Nations Cup 2025 has helped Thanh Thuy gain more confidence to prepare for her upcoming trip abroad to Japan. Before that, Thanh Thuy's career fell into a slump during her time playing in Türkiye and Indonesia. It was not until she returned to Vietnam to compete and most recently participated in the AVC Nations Cup 2025 that Thanh Thuy was able to regain her best professional qualities.

Another story that insiders are fond of in the above tournament is the presence of Asian Volleyball Federation President Ramon Suzara in the final match of the AVC Nations Cup 2025 at Dong Anh Stadium ( Hanoi ). Behind that is the international reputation of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation as well as the tournament. Because after many years, Asian Volleyball Federation President Ramon Suzara has just returned to Vietnam to watch an international tournament. From there, we can see more clearly the development of volleyball in Vietnam. At the same time, we can accurately assess the ability to host higher-level tournaments of continental volleyball in Vietnam in the near future. In the past three years, Vietnam has organized two official tournaments managed by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) - the 2023 Asian Women's Club Cup (in Vinh Phuc) and the 2025 AVC Nations Cup (in Hanoi). Organizing the above tournaments well will help Vietnam to be able to host tournaments of higher level in the future.

Towards new heights

Although the Vietnamese women's volleyball team successfully defended its championship title, experts believe that the team's level has exceeded the AVC Nations Cup and it needs to aim for stronger competitions.

In fact, this year's AVC Nations Cup championship continues to help the team qualify for the FIVB Challenger Cup - an international tournament organized by the International Volleyball Federation.

With this result, the women's team has increased its ranking points and climbed to 25th in the world. In addition, the team also won a place in the 2026 Asian Championship in China - another stepping stone to prepare for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Not to mention, the team's brand also increased significantly after these tournaments. There are no specific statistics on the increase in the team's brand value from achievements in international tournaments, but brand experts have confirmed that it has increased. If there are specific conditions to determine, then the team's brand value will increase even more. We must also mention the effect of the tournament on fans when creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the tournament. Of course, fanning the love of volleyball for fans also contributes to enhancing the team's brand.

All to see that the AVC Nations Cup always has a certain meaning for Vietnamese women's volleyball. As experts have repeatedly said, this should be considered a psychological springboard to aim for higher goals, instead of being satisfied with the championship in tournaments like the AVC Nations Cup. This is also focused on by the coaching board of the national women's volleyball team in this year's tournament. Not wanting to lose even 1% of the chance of winning the championship, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet often puts the strongest squad on the field. The team winning the AVC Nations Cup 2025 also means "the beginning is smooth" to aim for other important goals, in which the biggest goal in 2025 is to win the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet also said that the team is being built according to a specific strategy for each stage, through each international tournament in 2025, but the most important goal is still at the 33rd SEA Games. The goal of winning the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games is really a pressure for the team but also a motivation for the team. Because in this playground, there is still an unrivaled Thailand and is currently ranked 14th in the world. In addition, there is also Indonesia and a number of other teams implementing the policy of naturalizing players, enough to create a counterweight to the Vietnamese women's team.

According to experts, SEA Games 33 will be a measure for the entire preparation process of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team in 2025, starting with the AVC Nations Cup.

No player is sure of a place at SEA Games 33

Currently, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is training with 20 athletes. The team's coaching staff confirmed that no athlete is certain to participate in the 33rd SEA Games. According to the plan, after the first training phase (ending on September 8), the players will return to the club to participate in the second phase of the 2025 National Championship (October), before regrouping to prepare for the SEA Games.
