Controlling by clear standards is a measure to demonstrate responsibility to consumers, and is also a way to protect users' rights.
The E emission standard for industrial wood panels is divided into different levels to show the concentration of formaldehyde in industrial wood. This is the basis for buyers to choose products that are safe for their health.
Standard E is divided into specific levels such as:
E0 standard is the most friendly level to the user's health. Formaldehyde concentration is almost 0. Very few industrial wood lines can meet this standard. Usually only applied to untreated natural wood.
E1 standard, E1 plywood is industrial wood products with emission concentration of 0.03ppm (parts per million - density measurement unit). At this threshold, formaldehyde emission with dilute concentration does not directly affect the health of users.
E1 measurement is widely used in industrial wood flooring lines as a basis for choosing safe interior tiling materials for health. E1 has emission concentration that meets safety standards recognized by the World Health Organization.
E2 standard is the threshold that starts to be harmful to health. The emission of formaldehyde in the air is greater than 0.124 mg/m3, which is a warning sign that the product may be harmful to the health of the user. This is the standard that is being sold widely in Vietnam.
Therefore, QCVN 16:2023/BXD clearly stipulates that the formaldehyde content emitted in artificial wood panels for E1 classification is not greater than 0.124 mg/m3 or not greater than 9 mg/100g; For E2 classification, the formaldehyde content is greater than 0.124 mg/m3 or not greater than 30 mg/100g. Similarly, for industrial wood products, the formaldehyde content emitted is not greater than 0.124 mg/m3 or 0.7 mg/l, or 8 mg/100g.
In addition, E emission standards are a concern that needs to be given utmost attention when entering the industrial wood furniture export market.
Surely no one wants us to have to come into contact with and live in an environment that poses potential health risks every day.
Foreign consumers can base on the E1 standard applied to Vietnamese industrial wood products to evaluate and choose furniture products that meet health safety standards.
