Previously, in 2017, Kendall Jenner appeared on the Met Gala red carpet in a see-through design that revealed her underwear. The outfit had a cut-out detail in the middle of the chest. In 2018, she attended Harper's Bazaar 's party in a set of corset and see-through leggings. The outfit was paired with black lingerie.

Bold outfits don't just accompany Kendall Jenner at big events.

Appearing on the streets of Paris in November 2022, Kendall Jenner paired her panties with tights. The outfit helped the model show off her long, slim legs. In early 2023, the model attracted attention when she went braless and wore a see-through dress on the streets of West Hollywood, California.

On May 1, the female model continued to promote the see-through fashion trend on a date with her boyfriend. She paired a tight brown shirt with a fur-trimmed leather mini skirt.

Besides Kendall Jenner, the trend of wearing see-through clothes, revealing underwear is actively promoted by many models such as Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski. Meanwhile, famous designers such as Alaia, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada and Versace have introduced many types of see-through clothes on the catwalk.

This helps this trend grow stronger.

See-through trend is strong in 2023

Marie Claire commented: "The see-through trend will continue to grow strongly in 2023."

The see-through trend started to take off in spring 2022 and exploded in the summer. By 2023, this trend continued to take off but with a new twist.

"Sheer is always a bold, attention-grabbing material. One of the innovations in the Spring Summer 2023 collections is that the designs celebrate femininity," said trend forecaster Jessica Richards.

More than just a fashion trend, see-through clothing is used by celebrities to convey messages, according to Vogue .

On the 1998 VMAs red carpet, Rose McGowan wore a sparkling dress and black lingerie. This was her first red carpet appearance since accusing Harvey Weinstein of rape in 1997. Her choice of sexy outfit was considered a " political statement".

Body-baring designs had their moment in the sun in 2008 thanks to Dior and Chloé. However, the trend peaked in 2014, when Rihanna received the CFDA Fashion Icon of the Year award in a nude dress and fur shawl. Rihanna has become the perfect role model, encouraging women to wear what they want, fighting back against criticism and promoting female empowerment.

See-through outfits made a spectacular comeback in 2022 and show no signs of cooling down in 2023. They appeared heavily on the catwalk, in collections by Chanel, Nensi Dojaka, Prada, Dion Lee.

Even men are embracing see-through clothing. Austin Butler and Shawn Mendes wore bold designs on the street. Harry Styles wore a see-through shirt on the Met Gala red carpet.

There's no denying the appeal of this trend. However, it still attracts some harsh comments from those who wear it. Florence Pugh attended the Valentino fashion show in a pink dress that exposed her bust.

Speaking to The New York Times , the actress expressed her "surprise" at the negative reactions. "I got a lot of negative comments. I was surprised that people felt they were allowed to say disgusting things because I showed my breasts. The dress was bold but not ridiculous. It was not overly sexy," Florence Pugh said.
