CNN Indonesia reports that coach Shin Tae-yong is likely to lead the ASEAN All Stars team in a friendly match against Manchester United in May 2025. This event will take place in Malaysia, just three days after Manchester United's final Premier League match of the season (against Aston Villa on May 25th).
According to Indonesian media, coach Shin Tae-yong may be chosen to lead the ASEAN All Stars because the South Korean coach has a significant influence in the region and is currently unemployed. At this point, no official decision has been made. Even the ASEAN All Star roster remains a mystery. However, it is highly likely that the team representing Southeast Asian football will include top stars from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and others.
Coach Shin Tae-yong could lead the ASEAN All Stars.
Nguyen Tien Linh and Nguyen Quang Hai could be strong candidates to represent Vietnam in the ASEAN All Stars team. Nguyen Xuan Son is suffering from a long-term injury and will certainly miss this high-profile match.
Information about this match has only recently emerged from the News Straits Times, a reputable Malaysian newspaper. Manchester United will travel to the country to play a friendly match at the Bukit Jalil Stadium. The formation of the ASEAN All Stars team aims to attract audiences across the region.
According to the provisional schedule, the Malaysian and Thai leagues both conclude in April, but Johor Darul Tazim (Malaysia) and Buriram United (Thailand) still have matches in the AFC Champions League Elite. The Indonesian national league concludes in May, a few days before the ASEAN All Star match against Man Utd.
Meanwhile, the V.League schedule extends until the end of June. However, Vietnamese teams will play until May 25th and may play in the National Cup a few days later. Therefore, it is not yet possible to determine which members of the Vietnamese national team will participate in the aforementioned match.
