Hanoi Eight international schools announced tuition fees for the 2024-2025 school year at 168-760 million VND, along with a number of other fees such as deposits, admission, entrance exams...

Hanoi has 13 foreign-invested inter-level educational institutions, commonly known as international schools. These schools charge hundreds of millions of dong in tuition fees a year, increasing from kindergarten to high school. Many schools increase their tuition fees every year.

By mid-March, eight international schools in Hanoi had announced their tuition fees for the 2024-2025 school year. Of these, the United Nations International School Hanoi (UNIS Hanoi) had the highest tuition fee, at VND760 million, including extracurricular activities. The British International School Hanoi (BIS Hanoi) ranked second with a fee of VND607-679 million.

The lowest tuition fee is at the French International School (Lycée français Alexandre Yersin - LFAY) with 168-190 million VND. Of which, 168 million is for Vietnamese students.

The tuition fees listed above apply to parents who pay in one lump sum. If you pay by semester or quarter, the fee will be higher. For example, at UNIS, if you choose to pay by semester, you will have to pay more than VND390 million (VND780 million a year) and pay an administrative fee of 4% (more than VND31 million).

Some schools offer a 5-15% discount if parents pay tuition early or have multiple biological children enrolled. For example, ParkCity International School Hanoi - ISPH offers a 5-10% discount on tuition for parents with a second child studying at the school, while Hanoi International School - HIS offers a 10% discount for the third child and up. Meanwhile, if parents have two or more children studying at the Japanese International School - JIS, they receive a 5-15% discount on tuition.

In addition to tuition fees, international schools also charge admission fees, registration fees, deposit fees or entrance examination fees. British International School - BIS Hanoi has the highest registration fee - more than 70 million VND, non-refundable. Meanwhile, Hanoi International School - HIS charges a deposit fee of 50 million VND, entrance examination fee of 5 million VND per student.

International schools recruit students through a number of methods such as interviews, entrance exams in Math, Language, and English. However, some schools have preferential policies. For example, the French International School is directly managed by the French Education Agency Abroad (AEFE) and therefore gives priority to students of French nationality or from a school in France.

In terms of curriculum, students study similar to those abroad. For example, at UNIS Hanoi, students follow the IB PYP, with subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Information Technology, Languages, etc. Singapore International School has a Bilingual and International program, in which the International system studies subjects according to the Singapore curriculum. Meanwhile, the content at the British International School - BIS Hanoi is designed specifically, based on the curriculum of the British Ministry of Education and the international primary school program IPC.

According to data from ISC Research , Vietnam is one of the fastest growing markets in terms of the number of international schools, with more than 120 schools by the end of 2022. These schools teach international programs, mostly in English, and are concentrated mainly in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The organization believes the reason is that Vietnam's middle class (with a spending level of 11-110 USD/day) is growing, boosting the demand for international education.

Hanoi currently has about 816,000 primary school students, in more than 820 public and private schools.
