Preschool children and students in schools in Ho Chi Minh City have begun the spring festival season to welcome Lunar New Year 2025 with many meaningful activities.
In more than 10 days, it will be the Lunar New Year 2025. During these days, spring festivals will be held in kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City.
On January 17, the Spring Festival was held at Ngo Thoi Nhiem Primary, Secondary and High School (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City). And on January 16-17, 2025, the folk festival took place at 19/5 City Kindergarten, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Before that, kindergartens in the city also had many activities for children to learn about Tet.
Taking the theme of folk Tet, focusing on traditional Vietnamese activities during traditional Tet holidays, spring festivals, hoping to convey to students meaningful lessons about Tet, family reunion, gratitude to roots... The old Tet is revived in modern times, in the schoolyards of Ho Chi Minh City, spreading the traditional beauty of the nation.

Brightly decorated with apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, chrysanthemums, and red paper, and decorated with booths selling Tet sweets, soft drinks, calligraphy paintings, etc., the spring festival of Ngo Thoi Nhiem Primary, Secondary and High School brought many bright smiles to the participants.

Stick Pushing is a folk game often held during holidays and Tet, attracting a large number of participants of all ages. The competing stick is a good, straight, smooth wood or an old, straight, smooth bamboo trunk, 2 m long, painted in 2 different colors such as red and white. According to the rules of the game, both sides will push the stick, the side whose foot touches the line or is pushed out of the circle first loses. This game attracts a large number of students to participate and brings a lot of laughter to the audience.

For 2 days, January 16 and 17, at the 19/5 City Kindergarten, a folk festival took place with very traditional and folk corners right in the school yard. There was a corner for folding leaves, making coconut leaf grasshoppers and folk toys from leaves, a corner for making coconut jam, making Poria cocos cakes, making banana candy...
Preschool children are guided by teachers of 19/5 City Kindergarten to carve watermelons. Lucky words for the new year such as Wealth, Happiness, Prosperity, Longevity... are hand-carved onto watermelons.
When talking about traditional Tet dishes of many rural areas, we cannot miss Phuc Linh cake. The cake is made from tapioca flour, coconut leaves, coconut milk, sugar, and is soft and melts in the mouth, very delicious. Preschool children can knead the dough themselves, put it in a mold to make Phuc Linh cake.
To let preschool children know the process of making rice paper, teachers at 19/5 Thanh Pho Kindergarten also brought steamers, flour, bamboo mats... into the school yard, and showed off their rice paper making skills to the children.
When talking about Lunar New Year, coconut jam is indispensable. Kindergarten teachers personally made coconut jam for the children to observe and taste the traditional dish.
Ms. Mai Yen Hang, Principal of 19/5 City Kindergarten, said that the school organized the traditional New Year festival with the desire to give children a joyful and happy space to better understand the Lunar New Year of their homeland. Preschool children learn through play to develop in the areas of physical, aesthetic, cognitive, language, and social emotions.
Since the beginning of January 2025, the kindergarten class of Ta Tu House (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) has decorated the Tet space and organized many activities for children to experience the traditional Tet atmosphere, such as children drinking tea, eating jam and listening to the teacher tell stories about Tet; children making clay figurines...
