Guest Tournament Champion

Participating for the first time in the International Team Olympiad in Informatics (IIOT 2025), the Vietnamese team of 4 students from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences (under the University of Natural Sciences , Vietnam National University, Hanoi) won the Gold Medal with an impressive score of 771/800.

According to the head of the delegation, Do Phan Thuan (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), the International Olympiad in Informatics Teams (IIOT) is a prestigious computer programming competition in the world for high school students. The competition promotes teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills in a modern technological environment.

The competition is participated by teams of 4 students. Students compete in team programming at the high school level, similar to the ICPC international student programming competition for university students. First held in 2017 in Italy, IIOT has gradually affirmed its reputation and received the attention of students from many countries around the world.

In 2025, the competition will be held in Budapest (Hungary) from May 30 to June 3 with the participation of 15 regular teams and 8 guest teams from Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Syria, USA, Iran, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and Vietnam.

According to the regulations of the organizing committee, regular member countries are allowed to send up to 3 teams to participate and be considered for the official award. Guest teams from invited countries will participate and be considered for the guest award. The Vietnamese team participating in IIOT 2025 consists of 4 students from the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, all of whom have excellent academic achievements and high team spirit because they have been together for many years during the team's training process.

Hoang Xuan Bach - the contestant who won the Silver Medal at the Asian Informatics Olympiad and the Gold Medal at the International Informatics Olympiad in 2024. Nguyen Bui Duc Dung and Nguyen Xuan Chi Thanh also achieved excellent results at this year's Asian Informatics Olympiad.

With a strong competitive spirit, reasonable tactics and good coordination, the Vietnamese team officially entered the IIOT's golden record with the prestigious Gold Medal for the guest team. Notably, the Vietnamese team's score was 771, equal to Bulgaria, the team that won the Gold Medal in the group for regular member countries. Regular guest of European tournaments

Also in June 2025, participating in the 2025 European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO) in Bulgaria, the Vietnamese team excellently won 2 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, 1 Bronze Medal and 1 Certificate of Merit. This is the best achievement of the Vietnamese team in 7 times participating, the first time Vietnamese students won 2 Gold Medals in the tournament.

The European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO) is a prestigious physics competition in the world, along with the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) and the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO). The tournament is for high school students from European countries and some guest countries outside the continent, including Vietnam. Each participating country sends 5 students to take part in 2 theoretical and practical exams, each exam lasts 5 hours.

In 2025, the 9th European Physics Olympiad will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria from June 13 to June 17, bringing together more than 200 students from 29 European countries and 10 guest countries, including Vietnam. This is the 7th year Vietnam has participated in the European Physics Olympiad. Last year, the Vietnamese delegation won 1 Silver Medal and 3 Bronze Medals.

Regarding the achievements of the Vietnamese students, the head of the delegation, Mr. Nguyen Cao Khang - a lecturer at Hanoi National University of Education, said: The European Physics Olympiad is an annual competition for high school students, along with the International Physics Olympiad and the Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad. This is a prestigious tournament, highly appreciated by experts and academics.

First held in 2017, the first exams were exclusively for students from European countries. By 2019, the exam expanded to other countries, of which Vietnam was the first non-European country to participate and always had students winning prizes, one of the countries with the best results in the exam.

Carrying out the tasks assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Vietnam Physics Association, selected and established a team to participate in the 2025 European Physics Olympiad. The team consists of 5 members, who are students who won high prizes in the national excellent student competition and entered the selection round for excellent students to participate in the international competition.

“This year, the contestants have many advantages when receiving support from the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi National University of Education, the Vietnamese Embassy in Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian Embassy in Vietnam. During their stay in Bulgaria, the Vietnamese student delegation had many meaningful exchange activities with international student delegations,” Mr. Khang informed.

Nguyen Tran Hieu - student of Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, winner of the EuPhO 2025 Gold Medal shared: “Participating in EuPhO, candidates take two parts: theory and practice, each part lasts 5 hours. The knowledge of the exam is contained in the high school program, but there are variations that require deep understanding to analyze. I am very happy to participate in this tournament and have had many experiences”.

The remaining Gold Medal winner, Nguyen Le Dang Khoa (Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University) said: The European Physics Olympiad has been a familiar playground for Vietnamese students for many years. Participating in this tournament is not only for the medals but also for the opportunity for Vietnamese students to exchange and learn from international friends, especially students from European countries, where science and technology are very developed.

According to Mr. Do Phan Thuan, the victory at IIOT 2025 is not only an academic achievement but also a testament to the talent, will and courage of Vietnamese students in the field of computer science, contributing to raising Vietnam's position on the global technology map.
