Nguyen Thanh Chuc - student of lecturer and singer Dao Nguyen Vu - just won the Gold Cup at the Asia Artist Festival 2025.
Born into a family with no one in the arts but with a strong love for music , Nguyen Thanh Chuc - a girl born in 2004 from Chuong My, Hanoi - has gradually affirmed her talent and passion on the path of pursuing classical music, especially Opera music.
Although no one in his family works professionally in the arts, Thanh Chuc grew up in a bustling musical atmosphere since childhood thanks to his grandparents, parents, siblings and especially his uncle who created conditions for him to participate in artistic performances in the village and neighborhood.

The turning point came at the age of 18, right before graduating from high school, when Thanh Chuc met Ms. Dang Hong Nhung - the person who guided and connected Chuc to have the opportunity to meet Mr. Dao Nguyen Vu. Under the teacher's dedicated guidance, Thanh Chuc passed the entrance exam to the Vocal Music Department of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She is currently a 3rd year intermediate student, directly taught and professionally oriented by Mr. Vu.
Wanting to challenge herself, Thanh Chuc decided to register for the Asia Artist Festival 2025 (AAF) – one of the major music venues. The piece she chose was the Aria “Le violette” from the opera Pirro e Demetrio by Alessandro Scarlatti – a difficult piece that requires high vocal technique in the Baroque genre.

“The song has a fast tempo, and the high notes at the end are especially difficult to handle. I had to practice a lot, and sometimes even cried because I couldn’t achieve what I wanted,” Thanh Chuc shared.
Despite the great pressure, Thanh Chuc still kept trying. The encouragement from her family and teachers was a great source of motivation that helped her step onto the stage with all her confidence. The result of the competition was not only an affirmation of her talent, but also a profound spiritual gift to teacher Dao Nguyen Vu - who guided her from the first days on the path of professional music.
As one of the notable competitions in Asia for all ages, the 2025 Asian Arts Festival has attracted more than 2,600 contestants from more than 20 countries and territories including Asian countries and around the world such as Russia, Germany, Scotland, New Zealand... This is a great opportunity for contestants to shine and exchange and interact culturally.

Steadfastly pursuing a music genre that is selective of its audience, Thanh Chuc is currently studying opera – an academic music genre that requires hard work and outstanding vocal techniques. In addition, his teacher also oriented him towards chamber folk music – a genre rich in identity and artistic depth.
“I always try to learn from teachers and friends to improve myself day by day. Music is a journey without a destination, only constant improvement” – Thanh Chuc said.
Commenting on his student, lecturer - singer Dao Nguyen Vu - said: "I always believe that an artist must first have a sensitive soul and patience. In Thanh Chuc, I see both of those things. When I first met Chuc, she was still a very simple student, still full of confusion, but I clearly felt her seriousness and desire to pursue music persistently. What impressed me most about her was not her voice - although she has a beautiful voice, suitable for classical vocal music - but her spirit of continuous learning and her attitude of seeking knowledge and respect for art.
In class, I am a hard-working, progressive and always listening person. I am not afraid of difficulties, nor do I choose the easy path to shine. I am willing to practice to the point of exhaustion just to do a musical phrase well, to handle a nuance correctly. To me, that is the most valuable spirit of a growing artist.
The first success at the AAF competition that Chuc achieved is a worthy reward for his persistent efforts over the past time. But more importantly, I believe that he can go even further – if he maintains his modesty, passion and always puts artistic quality first. As a teacher, I am very proud and look forward to his journey ahead.”
After the competition, Thanh Chuc hopes to continue focusing on studying and developing professionally. She plans to release music products with her personal mark, and actively participate in many competitions at home and abroad to test herself, gain experience and gradually affirm her name.
“This award is a stepping stone for me to dare to dream bigger, to think about bigger stages. I hope to continue living with my passion and conquer many new musical milestones in the future,” she shared.
