(QNO) - On the evening of May 15, Hoi An City People's Committee officially opened the "Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles" on Phan Chau Trinh Street.
Phan Chau Trinh Street (Hoi An City) is about 1km long. In the first phase, the walking street will take place every day of the week. The time is from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the summer and 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the winter. The area of operation is from the intersection of Nguyen Hue - Phan Chau Trinh Street to the intersection of Cao Hong Lanh - Phan Chau Trinh Street.
Phase 2 is expected to be implemented from January 1, 2024. Operating hours are from 3:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the summer and from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the winter, all days of the week. Operating space is from the intersection of Hoang Dieu - Phan Chau Trinh Street to the intersection of Cao Hong Lanh - Phan Chau Trinh Street.
Along with the implementation of the walking street, many cultural experiences and art performances for residents and tourists will also be held regularly, such as Hat Boi at Van Chi Minh Huong, and music performances by the Cung Dan Xua band at 49 Phan Chau Trinh Street.
In addition, there are also tea ceremony spaces, Do paper stamping, lion head painting, Ong Dia mask painting at Hoi An communal house; folk games at Phap Bao lake; basketball exchanges, Chinese language teaching at Ngu Bang Assembly Hall... to bring many diverse and attractive experiences.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee affirmed that the programs "Old Town Night" and "Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles" not only bring charm, sparkle and appeal to the old town but also are unique cultural and tourism products, typical of Hoi An, loved by domestic and international tourists.
“Along with opening the walking street space, the city will make more efforts in renovating relics, improving urban infrastructure, dredging waterways and investing in more landscape bridges on the Hoai River, arranging order, environmental sanitation, business service activities, and tourism throughout the old quarter.
At the same time, pay more attention to developing and organizing activities on the streets east of Le Loi Street to Hoi An Market, An Hoi - Dong Hiep area and Nguyen Hoang Wharf, connecting Bach Dang Street with Huyen Tran Cong Chua and Phan Boi Chau. Move the night market on Cong Nu Ngoc Hoa Street to Dao Duy Tu and Ngoc Thanh Street..." - Mr. Lanh said.
Since 2004, Hoi An City has started to implement the “Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles” on the streets from Le Loi Street to Chua Cau and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street. By 2015, the walking street space continued to be expanded to Nguyen Phuc Chu Street and in 2017, it was deployed to the eastern area of the old town.
