At the announcement of a series of summer tourism programs held on June 15, Hoi An city chose the fine sand strip on Cua Dai beach to organize. This space just a few years ago was devastated by the fierce waves, at times it seemed like it was about to disappear.

Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee Nguyen Van Lanh said that to have the ceremony on the sandbank in Cua Dai, the whole Quang Nam province and many agencies worked together to find solutions to save the coast from deep sea erosion.
The goal is to put Cua Dai beach in the top 20 most beautiful beaches in the world.
Mr. Lanh is confident that with the recovery of sand resources through the coastal rescue project, Hoi An beach is expected to be in the top 20 most beautiful beaches in the world. Before facing the risk of disappearing completely from Hoi An, the strip of fine white sand, stretching out to the sea not far from the quiet and deep space of the old town, was once named one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. From 2019 onwards, Cua Dai beach has witnessed destructive erosion. At the end of each year, the wind from the sea pulls large waves rolling onto the shore, causing restaurants, resorts, and rows of ancient coconut trees to be pulled out.

Authorities, locals and even international tourists witnessing the cruelty of nature joined together to build sandbags to save the beautiful coastline. However, everything was only temporary. After many consultations and seminars, the project to build an underground dike outside the sea was implemented. This method immediately proved effective. Wherever the dike was built, the waves inside the shore were calm. High-powered machines brought sand from the outside to compensate for the parts that had been washed away by the waves before.
The spectacular revival of Cua Dai beach
Compared to the devastated image a few years ago, Cua Dai beach has now been filled with as much sand as it was before. Every day, visitors from the center of Hoi An ancient town and accommodation areas cycle in groups to the beach to enjoy the scenery and swim. The successful rescue of the beach has brought back tourism businesses. Many restaurants that were previously destroyed by the waves have now reinvested in their facilities, and customers flock to eat and drink during peak hours. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Trang, owner of a beverage stall on Cua Dai beach, said she has been attached to this beach for decades. But since 2019, she had to move elsewhere because the sand was washed away by the waves.

"In the past, the sandy beach was very wide, with ancient coconut trees growing in rows, very beautiful. There were always many visitors. But from 2019 onwards, it has been completely deserted, because the beach is no longer swimmable. From 2022 until now, when the underground dike was built, the sand settled, attracting visitors back. We are doing business bustlingly" - Ms. Trang said. On the afternoon of June 15, a large stage was designed in the middle of Cua Dai beach. Outside the shore, people and tourists were swimming in the sea. Inside, restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops were built close together to serve visitors. Hoi An's choice of Cua Dai as the large stage to announce a series of beach tourism programs called Summer Emotions is not just a simple practice of tourism activities. This event also conveys the message of the revival of a famous beach that once faced fierce natural disasters, thanks to efforts to save the sea that have brought results.
Sea festival carries message of environmental recovery
According to the leader of Hoi An City People's Committee, Hoi An Sea Festival - Summer Emotions 2024 held along Hoi An beach from Cua Dai to An Bang will have a series of activities until the end of July. These include yoga exchange activities on the sea, kite flying festival, "Endless Summer" event, Music - Cuisine - Sports Space, Coral Summer Camp, "Cu Lao Cham - Red Parasol Flower Season" Festival. The festival will contribute to conveying the beautiful image of the beaches after efforts to save the sea and invest in activities to serve tourists' experiences.
