In a study published in the journal Neurology, a team of scientists performed functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on 29 patients who had been infected with Covid-19 for the past 7 months. Nine of them were hospitalized for treatment. Each patient had at least one neurological symptom such as memory loss, depression or anxiety. The team compared them with a control group of 21 people who had not had Covid-19.

The results showed that people with Long Covid syndrome scored lower on tests of dexterity and physical endurance than those without Covid-19; they also reported more negative emotions. The study also found that people with Long Covid syndrome experienced brain fog, a form of cognitive dysfunction, along with memory problems or other psychiatric symptoms for months after contracting Covid-19.
